I like seeing these tight playoff races. Even though in previous seasons, it never involved a turtle derby of all these teams three-four games below .500

35 games left.

I think it's doable
'Winning' the sixth Wild Card position will likely do more harm than good to the Blue Jays in the long term.

On the plus side, (based on previous years in which each League has had six teams play in the postseason), they'll have approximately a 1.2% chance of winning the World Series from the AL 6 seed; passing either the Red Sox or the Yankees in the standings appears to be a pipe dream.

On the negative side, they will be excluded from the draft lottery for next year's top amateur players, which will also result in a significant drop in the sum total of bonus money they will be permitted to pay to draftees. Their first selection in next year's draft would also be no higher than 29th overall, because they're already subject to a ten spot drop for having exceeded the Luxury Tax limit for a third consecutive year. If they select any high school players with early round picks, they'll run the risk of losing rights to those players if they elect to attend College or University instead of turning pro immediately.

The farm system, (ranked #22 of 30), currently has no impact talent who are likely to make significant contributions in 2027. There isn't much in the way of surplus at any position that offseason trading can fill one hole in the lineup without creating another. Spending on additional veteran free agents will ensure that the Luxury Tax penalties continue indefinitely.

Jose Berrios is unlikely to decline his $24.7 Million player option salary for 2027, (a $6 Million raise), even though he may well not pitch at the Big League level next year, and Andres Gimenez will be paid an additional $8 Million per season for at least three more years, (bump from $15.57 Million). Who knows if and when Anthony Santander will make a significant onfield contribution.

A second consecutive postseason appearance would be used to justify the inevitable annual hike in ticket prices which Rogers is likely to impose, at least until crowd numbers dwindle.

Finishing with the final wild-card spot would be much better than passing the Sox or Yankees would be. It would put us against the AL west winner instead of one of the above.

As far as the draft goes Jays may look at college Jr's in the early rounds and focus on seniors in the later rounds. Seniors have no leverage, so they often sign for less than slot money.

Jose Sanchez cost the Jays a second win against the Rays. He had to face Max Scherzer in the clubhouse. 😲

He's a defensive liability like George Bell was.
The loss aside due to JS not catching that ball, game showed that Jays are better than the Rays. They have also scored runs against great pitching in the last series vs Yanks and in this one.

George Bell could hit, he held the Jays home run record (47) for 23 years before Jose broke it with 54. I doubt Jose Sanchez will ever hit 40.

It's unhealthy to piss off Max Scherzer, he reminds me of Jimmy Connors. John Schneider won't protect Sanchez.

I'm not defending Sanchez's poor play, but in the last two years there have been more than one occasion where Scherzer shit the bed with a poor performance.
At this point, any positive outings from Max should be seen as found money.

Last playoffs wouldn't have stung for me if either:

A) They bowed out early against the Yankees
B) The Dodgers finished them off in no more than 5 games instead of making it agonizingly close
C) The franchise didn’t win it all in 1992 and 1993 to make the 2025 run tease us with nostalgia
