" The 2025 MLB Draft Lottery took place on December 10, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, during the Winter Meetings. The Chicago White Sox and Athletics were ineligible to participate in the lottery, as per a rule in the collective bargaining agreement between Major League Baseball (MLB) and MLB Players Association that limits teams in larger markets from winning draft lottery picks in consecutive seasons, as well as limits teams in smaller markets from winning draft lottery picks 3 seasons in a row. ".
The White Sox won the draft lottery for 2026.
The Twins, Pirates, Rays, Giants and Royals all moved up. My understanding of the rule is that the teams from this group which are considered to be 'larger markets' will be excluded. The A's didn't move up last time, so they should be unrestricted.
Teams don't lose their first round pick if they're ineligible for the lottery. The just lose their chance to move up, and they can be leapfrogged by teams with with a higher finish in the 2025 season. Without the lottery, the Athletics would have picked 5th, instead of 8th.

Jays pick reliever Paul Sewald off waivers. He's old, his ERA is high, but he's tied for fourth in the NL for Saves this year.

Sewald's on a $1.5 Million one year contract. I estimate the odds at 50/50 that he's still a Blue Jay on September 1.
He would be the 33rd player to pitch for the Blue Jays in 2026, including position players. In contrast, the 1969 Baltimore Orioles used 14 pitchers, including three guys who combined to pitch 16 ⅔ innings. Last year the Jays used 36 pitchers. The record is 42 pitchers, used by the Seattle Mariners in 2019.
It was an appeal play. The Jays had to appeal to get the out at third before they left the field but they did not
In essence, they needed 4 outs after the appeal at first created the third out

Just after the trade deadline passed I was looking at the standings and thinking to myself that as poor as the Jays have been, they still have a legit chance for the last wild card berth. The Tigers, Guardians and Mariners were our competition. Tigers had traded off their two best starting pitchers and the Mariners and the Guardians have been wildly inconsistent all season. Sure enough we've jumped ahead of the Mariners (3-7 in their past 10) and are tied with the Guardians who are also 3-7 in their past 10. Both of us 1.5 back of the Tigers. Lot's of baseball to play.
The runner had scored before the third out at first so it counts but the runner at third had not tagged so was illegal but the Jays had to appeal by throwing ball to third and they did not. It was a mistake by the Jays that allowed the run scored
The Jays argued the umpire had called the team off the field so were not given a chance to appeal but the umpire calling the defense off the field is the opportunity for the Jays to appeal because as long as the team is on the field they can still appeal
interesting point in how the tigers gave up quality pitching when the jays kept some pitching in the hope they would pitch well so we could be in WC run
we have as many wins as the last wc team and 1 game behind because of this

Lazardo Estrada could potentially be traded, released, or re-signed, if no other team wants him.
Daz Cameron is the hot hand at Buffalo, but I don't expect him to be on the team when Guerrero returns. He'll earn about $30K if he stays in the Big Leagues for a week. In 435 prior Major League at bats with 3 other teams, the 29 year old outfielder has a career batting average sitting exactly on the Mendoza Line.
