Guardians blow another game, and Jays now just 3 games out WC spot
Another way of looking at it: The Jays are 9 games behind the Red Sox, and there are six teams ahead of them for that 6th Wild Card spot.

The Jays are also 23rd overall in Major League standings. They need to finish in the bottom six, or move up in the draft lottery, to avoid having their first pick in next July's amateur draft drop by ten spots, because of their salary cap situation. Fifteen of their twenty-four games in September are on the road.

Next up on the August schedule: 1 Game tomorrow afternoon at Chicago Cubs, 3 @ Phillies, 4 home vs Red Sox, 3 home vs Yankees, 3 @ Rays, 3 @ Yankees, 3 home vs Royals and Mariners. They are scheduled to play 23 games in the next 25 days.

Jays need to go on a 6 or 7-game win streak and see if they can pull within 1 game of WC spot.
Then they might have a chance to make playoffs.

I wouldnt put money on it though, but you never know

so they have to get hotter than all the 6 teams better than them while hoping no team behind them gets hotter

WC is a bunch of clever marketing to keep fans interested

Vladdie is a paradox, he's hitting like a 90 lbs weakling. I put several potential illnesses into the search engine, they all came back negative.

Dylan Cease is stone cold, 10 strikeouts today, the Jays blew it in the 11th. He needs a theme song.

A football team is losing by 30 points at the start of the fourth quarter, and the announcer says 'four quick touchdowns, and they're right back in this game!'

Last year the Blue Jays led the Major Leagues with 94 regular season wins, (.580 winning percentage). If they maintain a .586 percentage for the last 46 games, they'll finish at .500 for the season.

Ricky Tiedemann threw a scoreless inning for Buffalo on Wednesday in his first game action in more than two full calendar years.

Led the American league not the Major Leagues...Actually Yankees had 94 as well. NY went 9-1 down the stretch to tie them.

Phillies had 96 and Brewers had 97.

It's been years since I've seen a Blue Jays game at the stadium.

This may sound like a stupid question, but is there still a box office to buy a ticket just before the game? I'm planning to get general admission in the outfield district for Thursday afternoon vs the Red Sox.

Thanks!

There is a box office, but the district is usually sold out.

The skinny on Brett Bateman:

Bateman was acquired from the Chicago Cubs with Shortstop Ty Southisene for Kevin Gausman on August 3.

He made his Major League debut in Center Field and batting 9th on Friday night, with a double in his first at bat, finishing 1 for 2 with two walks.

He's a plus fielder, he steals bases and he has a good batting eye and plus plate discipline - 62 BBs in 359 Plate Appearances at AAA level in 2026; 220 walks vs 254 strikeouts in four minor league seasons.

Not much in the power department - Isolated Power, (Slugging Pct - Batting Average), .109 for 2026 and .061 for his four years in the minors. He's clearly either fully or partially Asian. My guess is that he's descended from the Viet Namese 'boat people', many of whom settled in Minnesota - he was born in St Paul, and he's a Golden Gophers alumnus.

The WC possibilities sounds like we are only 4 games out so we got a chance but it is the number of other teams that are also 4 games out or less that count as you have to beat every single one of them

There are 6 teams we have to beat but our odds are far greater than 1 in 7 as we are behind everyone

Meanwhile the Athletics are working their way down to the bottom of the League standings. They're now only one game ahead of the Angels and Rockies.

2027 is scheduled to be their last season playing in a 10,000 seat AAA stadium in Sacramento. They are going to be scary good for a long time, once they relocate to Las Vegas. They'll have several young offensive stars with multiple years of Club controlled contracts, and $100 Million plus to buy a pitching staff. It wouldn't surprise me if Las vegas native Bryce Harper finishes his career there, and another home town boy, Greg Maddux, could very likely give their pitchers some valuable advice.

'Winning' the sixth Wild Card spot is sort of like getting 10th place in an NBA Conference - it extends the season for a few days, and excludes the team from the draft lottery.
