I guess Toronto can thank Carolina and Montreal's recent lacklustre performance for the fact that the Leafs still have a shot at 8th spot!!!

7. NY Islanders 68 34 24 10 78
8. NY Rangers 69 34 27 8 76
----------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Carolina 70 34 28 8 76
10. Toronto 69 33 27 9 75
11. Montreal 70 34 30 6 74

but hey, it's still early right? Not 1 team in the entire NHL has clinched a playoff birth as of yet! 102pts. needed to do that right now in the east, 100pts. will do it in the west... and it will drop with each day that passes. tic-toc tic-toc tic-toc... Nashville's the closest at 1 win away.

i wonder what team in the East will decide to throw away the chances of playoffs like Edmonton did in the west? (7 losses in a row, now!) 2 weeks ago an Edmonton was in the middle of the race to move up in playoff positioning!!!

Last year Toronto had a .500 record when you count all their loses. 41 wins and 41 loses and that wasn't good enough to get in.

This year so far, they are 33 wins , 36 loses when you add all the columns.

Leaf goaltending is too inconsistent to make it, I think. This league now is all about goaltending. Montreal went down the sewer when their goalie, Huet, suddenly lost his magic touch for no apparent reason.
And Raycroft ranks 31st in GAA out of 44 goalies in the NHL who have played at least 1,100 minutes this season. Probably not good enough.

Yea, GAA is a team stat.
Too bad we can't put Brodeur in a Leaf net for 20 games and Raycroft in the Devils net for 20 games and see how they do.

save % is about the best telling stat- but not 100%, because it doesn't decipher from real scoring chances and dump-ins, breakaways, or screened shots. this makes it a bit of a team stat.

this is why there are so many different stats to guage performance.

the best way to compare goalies is by watching them! :)

Yep, a win tonight and the Buds are in 7th place all by themselves! I just hope they are ready for tonight and dont under estimate the Caps. I've heard a few of the Leafs talking about the Habs game but no mention of tonight.
Hey, it can be in the bag for tonight.

the leafs just have to focus on taking care of the Caps... probably an easy job- it IS the CAPS, afterall!!!. my pens will handle the rest by taking care of the Habs for them... Laraque will scare the shit outta Lapierre tonight, that's for sure.

Leafs lost to Washington again ? Unbelievable
Don't be mad, still 11 more games to play and the Leafs are at the playoff doorsteps.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Last night and tonight were supposed to be good chances to gain on their opponents.
Do you think they're going to get anymore this week...with games against New Jersey, and back-to-back against Buffalo? Not much of a chance....:(

Too bad Toronto only gained one point tonight vs Montreal. How about let Toronto win all the remaining games except the two with Buffalo???

Always remember this ... You can't get excited about this team cause just
when they get close ... Shit like this will happen ..

5 Fuckin goals Raycroft ... How many time have you done this ???

...who cares how many Razor let in...can you believe these slugs made another goalie look like a Brodeur clone.??...one goal???....now enough blaming Raycroft when the offense does sweet fuck all...like Saturday against Montreal...they take on another no name hack, and can't beat him for more than 2 goals. If you don't score 4 in this league against the middle of the road or lower teams, you don't deserve to win

looked like Paul Maurice was all fucked up on his lines... they weren't properly matched and Guy Carburator beat PM at the matchup game.

what's weird is they could've used the same lines as what worked before when they smoked the Cnd's... i guess PM opted for something new... don't understand it.

imagine if the leafs could get Sheldon Souray in the off season as UFA (man does he ever have a shot)... i think he's going to California, though.

way out in left field
I just wish someone would stick a fork in the leafs because they don't know they're DONE. I mean, sloppy plays, missed passes, STUPID passes and a penalty in the first 2 mins. of the game? WTF was that?

I just want to add one thing: BOULLION IS A PUSSY fighting Tucker while wearing a visor....what a fucking goof. Oh big brave man, I am SO surprised Cherry didn't ream him out during CC.

you and your stats Roach...

Listen look at the stats ... This goalie is in the bottom of the league ..
He let in 5 goals ... Oh by the way Olaf Kolzig is a great goalie ..
He has 274 career goals ...

32nd place Andrew Raycroft, TOR Goals against ..
36nd Andrew Raycroft, TOR Save percentage ... !!!

Raycroft has the 25th-best save percentage in the shootout among NHL goalies, and was beaten cleanly on forehand dekes by both Saku Koivu and rookie Andrei Kostitsyn last night.
..you can use your stats to examine a body of work..I'm talkin about a particular game...BTW, I was out of town for the Caps debacle, thought Kolzig was still injured...Kolzig is a good goalie..great may be stretching it..

As far as last night's shootout??....not really that upset with that loss...if they would have beaten the Caps..as they should have..and only scored 1 goal..can't expect to win with that feeble offensive effort...then they would be in a playoff spot as we speak..not on the outside looking in..

Thankfully ....the Isles,Canes and Lightning have fallen back to the pack the Leafs are in with Montreal and the Rangers..should be a dogfight for those last 3 spots. Leafs need to pick up 15 of the last 20 available points to make it..and blowing it agaisnt teams that should be beat like the Caps ..well, tehy will be looking back at those and saying "what if"....

I cant see the Leafs making it at this point in time.

Those two weekend games were quite pitiful. Way too much time running around in their own zone, they seemed to be lacking urgency.

The Rangers and Hurricanes seem to have softer schedules down the stretch, whereas the Leafs have one of the tougher ones.

Ah well maybe next year...oh wait, too much money tied up in that defence!
