Not Toronto but I doubt Ottawa is much different.
Went for a 40 minute walk on Bank street south of the 417 around 3 to 4. I saw 5 people on bikes in bike lanes, another 3 walking their bikes on the side walks. Hundreds of pedestrians and a fuck ton of cars and people on buses. It was also perfect weather for taking the bike, not too warm, not to cold, no rain.
Seen the same in downtown Montreal, thier bike lanes are hardly used. People walk, drive or take the bus/metro even on good days.
44% use their bike to commute, is obvious bullshit, I doubt 44 percent of people even have bikes. Even if it was a true study that didn't suffer from some sort of bias, based on what the mark 1 A 2 eyeball, those people are not using their bikes very often.
Bikers are up here in my town every weekend, I find it confusing why ordinary traffic laws are not followed by bikers, mostly stopping at stop signs?? Can anyone t me why??
Because when a walker comes to a complete stop, starting again is trivial. With a car, the gas does the effort. In a bike coming to a complete stop and tthen going again takes a bit of effort, easier to just slow down a bit and hope for the best.
