If we want to save every single life possible, we should shut down for 2 years and reduce the speed limits to 10km/hr.

And if hundreds of millions starve to death and die from other poverty maladies, at least they didn`t get Covid-19, or die in a horrific car crash.
Evidently "we" don't, as evidenced by the pre C-19 world & the fact that a few people are still driving on the roads. It's sad & a pity. Though a lot of other things have been done to try to reduce road fatalities. And starvation, etc. Personally, i choose not to get in road "death traps", but if others want to risk their lives, that's their choice. Evidently flying is much safer. Instead of cars, most people could ride in safer buses, trains, etc, & vehicles driven by pros (e.g. taxis).

Even the White House's vague "guidelines" on opening include 14-day declines as part of the criteria.

It looks like the Toronto new infection rate has plateaued at round 400-600 but it is is not declining. Also, it is taking its toll on health care workers due to infections, MIA (fear), burnouts, etc.
You have to keep in mind that the Government just started to increase testing in all LTCH's so the infection rate will increase.

The number of tests being carried out in the LTCH's should be presented in one table and the balance of the population should be presented in a second table. The second table is the critical one to follow to see if the number of cases is trending downwards.

I believe the downward curve requirement is in new hospitalizations. Using new infections would not make sense since as do more testing will find many more folks that had no symptoms but had the virus. Likewise, death is not a good indicator since death as usually many weeks after being admitted.

We have to use a 14 day timeline with a downward trend if we are going to be curbing the spread of the Coronavirus.
We certainly can not use just the numbers in Toronto as evidence to open businesses back up.
End the panic and isolation: https://terb.cc/vbulletin/showthrea...ta-is-in-stop-the-panic-and-end-the-isolation

Curbing the spread? That’s undesirable. Allow it to spread far and wide, like it already is with no realistic way of stopping it without continuous draconian measures. You can however stop it from infecting small specific groups that are most vulnerable.

who really benefits from this unconstitutional lockdowns?

The new coronavirus pandemic has triggered a spike in prescriptions for depression, anxiety and insomnia in a looming mental health pandemic that could explode in America if steps aren’t taken to prevent it, one of the world’s leading psychiatrists on mood disorders has warned.

Dr. Roger McIntyre, who is currently a professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the University of Toronto and head of the Mood Disorders Psychopharmacology Unit at the University Health Network in Toronto, told The Christian Post in a recent interview that the deadly coronavirus — which has already killed more than 47,000 people nationwide and infected close to 900,000 — is already taking its toll on Americans mentally.

“This is the greatest threat on our mental health in our lifetime. A combustible mix of fear, insecurity and quarantine,” he said. ”We’re very concerned about an increase in suicide, depression, stress and alcoholism [but] with the appropriate social, medical and individual response we can prevent the [mental health] curve.”

In their latest report on the use of medications to treat three of the most common mental health conditions — depression, anxiety and insomnia — Express Scripts, America’s largest pharmacy benefit management organization, showed how the coronavirus has already been impacting America’s mental health.

These two quacks own 7 clinics that have been struggling or shut down by the pandemic. It's all motivated by their greed!
Not all business owners are quacks like these two, there are some who are very responsible.
I have a family member in the US who owns a mid size 100+ locations national restaurant chain, currently they only have 10% of their locations open for business even for take out, and although businesses including restaurants are allowed to open in Georgia they do not have any plans to open those businesses up any time soon. But unfortunately people and their selfish greed is a problem we are facing. Why it is extremely important that when this ends we support those businesses who were responsible and avoid those that weren't.

Dave Phoenix I have not seen a single person post on here that we need to shut down for 2 years. People like the poster above keep making the assumptions that are furthest from reality they can make in an effort to promote the idea of opening businesses up ASAP, and have been running around promoting the "Sweden success" propoganda meanwhile all evidence proves so far they haven't been as successful as their immediate neighbours Denmark and Norway.
You are 100% right about the 14 day downward curve and I've posted this numerous times, unfortunately some people still haven't understood or willfully ignoring that most important fact (asymptomatic carriers) revolving around the Coronavirus.
While I have been happy with generally the way we have handle it in Ontario. I have been also following what been going on in Sweden closely. It’s never been about preventing deaths or illness. It’s been about flattening the curve and stopping the healthcare system from becoming over burden. While there is reports the healthcare system in Sweden has been strained it has never been over burden. With the warmer weather coming and an end to the flu season, I’d say both Ontario and Sweden have done what they set out to do.

Sweden might of set a road map that we can follow and improve on to deal with wave two of this pandemic.

Sweden is not what we should emulate far from it.

While you may claim that "Sweden success" and they have flattened the curve without overburdening their healthcare system, they haven't overburdened their healthcare system yet, and they haven't flatted a curve that was not what their actions or intentions were nor is it what has happened. The reality is without proper measures and keeping businesses open as usual the healthcare system will be overburdened at some point they have been lucky that it hasn't happened yet, whether that happens remains to be seen.
Sweden compared to their immediate neighbours Denmark and Norway is not fairing as well, they all saw the first jump in cases within days of one another those two countries took drastic measures while Sweden took the lax route and they are paying dearly for it. It's very clear that they have numerous deaths on their hands that could have been avoided had they taken the proper measures.

The measures or non measures Sweden has taken is absolutely what we should not emulate. If there is one country we should learn from its Taiwan. Not only did they take preventive measures prior to the virus coming into their country but they also took excellent tracing and health measures simultaneously to the preventive measures to ensure they are keeping fatalities and cases to a minimum.

Opening businesses without proper tracing and health measures in place is definitely what we should not do, and unfortunately the same people who are complaining about businesses being closed will be the same people who will be complaining about the tracing and health measures that needs to be in place.

I find it interesting that 2,000,000 (2/3 of all the cases) are currently infected seeing as it has been going on for 3-4 months already.

What I find interesting is that this terrible pandemic that made the whole world shut down and hide inside, is treated by any health system as a common flu. If you test positive, you are told to go home and drink lots of fluids.
I assume you are talking about the Canadian health system? In the US of course if you test positive but have minor or no symptoms you are going to be sent home. When until a few weeks ago many hospitals were overwhelmed with patients, had to delay non critical surgeries etc, of course they can not tie up beds when the have such a shortage of nurses etc., epecially in NYC. NY had to bring in an army of nurses and doctors from all over the US to relieve overworked staff and major hospitals esepecially in NY but also other cities.

Can you document that? Some people are calling it a hoax:

Can you document that? Some people are calling it a hoax:
There only are 2.8 million cases worldwide
800,000 of those are active USA cases (UK at 135K & Italy at 108K are nowhere close)

Most of Euro & Asia seem well done at this point

Most of the news is a hoax, but it seems likely due to large US spike they very well did have shortages
But really nowhere else does

Mostly from an honest, legitimate news channel with many videos showing almost every day the inside of a few NY hospitals and live on-air interviews with on-scene docs and nurses from various hospitals around the US. Recently the showed the difference from the tape of the previous visit to one hospital where shown gurneys lining the hallways since no beds available and in the last few days now empty halls at least but plenty of patients.

Instead of just Trump/Putin propaganda Fox commentators (not real journalist news). They have guests from both parties, including Trump defenders. And fact-checking is usually playing the video of a Trump lie and detailed real fact-checking that real journalists do not Fox. Often they play the video of Trump saying one thing and then later the opposite. Very well documented truth-based news not "alternative facts" and the Trump Show.
