This is absolutely true. So many folks pack on so much weight by drinking their calories.
I can't find the documentary on YouTube at the moment, but it was about how in America fast-food/sugary beverages fuel the obesity, which fuels the drug industry, which fuels poverty.
And because of that poverty, fast food becomes a very convenient option to feed lower income families.
It's a pretty vicious and sad cycle; but those fuckers have it on lock and are profiting madly.

This wasn't the one I'm refering to but still gets the message across pretty well:

Definitely! It's cheaper to go to Mcdonald's and pick up a Big Mac meal or a party size Pizza for the family than buy healthy food and then go through the trouble of preparing it at home. Tasty yes but high in calories which brings on obesity followed by diabetes, high blood pressure, and so on.

In the video the guy is dumbfounded by the fact that a 2L bottle of Coke or Pepsi is cheaper than water.
And this is even more common in Mexico and other places which geographically have a much harder time getting access to clean fresh drinking water.
No wonder Coca Cola is a fortune 500 company.

Covid has been good to me. I am down 30 lbs, with another 10lbs to go. Feel great and I am in the best shape since my early 20's.

So yesterday was my cheat day. I have it on the 1st and 15th,. but I didn’t want to cheat on a Monday. The start of the week.

I got a McDouble made like a BigMac (so that I was not taking all the calories of an actual BM), small fries and small drink. It was boring. I bought ice cream as well and didn’t eat it. So it will stay in the freezer for next cheat day.

I was so exited for my cheat day. I worked hard for two weeks. I lost weight. I was happy and then huge disappointment.

Maybe it was what I choose but man, it was just a huge let down. No more McDs for me. It is not appealing anymore.

In the end, it is calories in calories out. Eat carbs but be in a calorie deficit you will lose weight, take in more than you burn off you will gain weight.
It is as simple as that. End of story. A calorie is a calorie is a calorie. It is a specifically defined unit of energy, and regardless of the source, a calorie is always the same. So 10 calories burned is always exactly equal to 10 calories consumed.

From Britannica:
Calorie, a unit of energy or heat variously defined. The calorie was originally defined as the amount of heat required at a pressure of 1 standard atmosphere to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1° Celsius. Since 1925 this calorie has been defined in terms of the joule, the definition since 1948 being that one calorie is equal to approximately 4.2 joules. Because the quantity of heat represented by the calorie is known to differ at different temperatures (by as much as 1 percent), it has consequently been necessary to define the temperature at which the specific heat of water is to be taken as 1 calorie. Thus the “15° calorie” (also called the gram-calorie, or small calorie) was defined as the amount of heat that will raise the temperature of 1 gram of water from 14.5° to 15.5° C—equal to 4.1855 joules. Other less common definitions in this series are the 20° calorie (4.18190 joules) from 19.5° to 20.5° C; and the mean calorie (4.19002 joules) defined as 1/100 of the heat necessary to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water from 0° to 100° C.

This seems to be America today. This seems to be the accepted norm. Wonder what their government/s are doing wrong?

I have one day a month, at the end of the month, when I buy myself a quarter pounder with fries and pop. But ONLY if I've been good all month long.

So, I haven't had a quarter pounder since November and the end of this month ain't lookin' too good. LOL. 🍔🍟😦

I have never understood the argument that fast food is cheaper and that's why the poorer survive on it. Fast food is expensive in my opinion.

I was raised by my grandparents and was taught how to stretch out food and not waste anything. I make my own soups and stews. A roast in the slow cooker can easily last me for a couple of days. Or a small chicken. Potatoes, carrots, onions, peas....all very affordable. Green cabbage is the most affordable vegetable per serving. (Savoy is a bit more expensive but is the best for making cabbage rolls).

Bake your own bread. Buy bags of milk and freeze them....

Rice and beans can be delicious if you play with different recipes.

Agree 100%. I think the issue is that for most people, there is a lack of knowledge about how to shop for healthy food economically, and how to prepare it so it is tasty. If you shop carefully, a whole chicken can be had for less than the cost of a Big Mac combo, and feed a person 4 meals, plus make a soup that will do another couple. A piece of salmon can be had for about 4 bucks, that and a salad and a bit of rice will make the whole meal less than $6, and be super healthy. Your stew example is another great one. Take that chicken, or a piece of pork or beef that is on sale, and for 10bucks plus a couple on veg and potatoes, you’ll eat for a week. Sure, if you want to buy wild caught halibut instead of a piece of farmed salmon, or beef tenderloin, instead of the sirloin tip roast on sale, the “healthy” food cost skyrockets. IMO it’s sinful that a) many parents and b) out schools don’t teach kids about buying and preparing economical food.

I don't look at the scale any more, I take measurements of my waist and hips, that's where my extra storage likes to sit.

I've definitely lost some of the extra storage by minimizing over eating, just before bed eating, over-indulgence in alcohol consumption; gone to bed more or less around the same time every night, have my meals around the same time, wake up around the same time.

Although I haven't worked out consistently, I've lost 2-3 inches off my waist and about 1.5 inches in the waist closer to fitting in a hot pair of leather pants again!

I am down 22lbs. Feeling much better now then I did when I started this thread. LOL.

And holy cheaper grocery bill. I know eating healthier usually costs more but it is nothing compared to ordering SkipTheDishes 4 times a week!o_O

Anyone, who has will power to stick to their goals and achieve them, has my respect.

Keep doing whatever you're doing - stick to it or else those lost pounds will stick back on.
