His ERA is now 4.00.

I'm worried about Jansen. Not sure if he has what it takes to be a Major League hitter

I had a feeling Matz was due for a bad outing
I think it's significant that Matz' first bad outing for the Jays was in an Inter-League game against a National League East team he's faced many times. In the mid 80's, I did a study on left handed pitchers who switched leagues, which showed a tremendous improvement in performance in their first season in the other league, with statistics reverting to their previous levels the following season. I submitted the essay to Bill James, for his Baseball Abstract. I received a letter signed by Bill, saying that he did not understand what point I was trying to make, and he also mentioned that I had misspelled the surname of Roger Clemens.

No doubt. New pitchers have the upper hand. Catcher knows how to pitch batters but batters do not know the pitcher

second time he pitches a team he will come back to earth

My current favourite Jay-Alejandro Kirk!!!!!

What a terrific compact level swing, reminds me of Olerud's.

Already miles better than Jansen. He's got 3 homeruns in 44 PA's so he's on track for 30 homers.
And yes I know he probaby wont get 30, but he could hit 18 to 25 dingers this season.
Thats good enough for his first full year.

BTW His 2nd HR was off a 95mph fastball, so he can hit the heat

And to think that he has never played above A level before being called up to the majors.

I've been waiting for Kirk to break out he has a bat. I'd give Jansen another week or so if he doesn't improve Kirk full time catcher and bring up McGuire who's our best defensive catcher. Just can't hit a lick.

Do you think that he'll get 440 PAs?
Most likely he wont
I think Janssen is the better defender that the Jays will still have much need for
He is, but at what point does his hitting become so bad that he starts to hurt the team and it cancels out his defense??
His defense and throwing arm are good btw, but they're not great either.

Right now he's hitting .045. Thats inexcusable: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/janseda01.shtml
I like him though, he seems like a real team player, I hope he turns the ship around

I think that the best outcome would be if Kirk becomes better defensively.
