I know right? This is a rare situation.
A few rare events in the game last night.
4 Blue Jays struck out in the top of the 1st (rare, but that happens).
Toronto also scored 4 runs in their half of the 1st inning.
4K's and 4R in same inning?
Once before, in 1902, in major league baseball.

Good win by the Jays yesterday - hopefully they can continue it through the weekend.

Grichuk owns Glasnow, 3 career hits off him, all HRs!

Good defensive game by Gurriel Jr, great catch at wall and a cannon for an arm to throw out base runner attempting to score.

When Springer and Hernandez are off IL, who will be odd outfielder out?

I say it should be Gurriel Jr., he's doing fuck all at the plate, and misreading balls in left field.

Grichuk is having a decent season at plate, before season started it was assumed Grichuk would be the benchwarmer.

I say trade Gurriel for a decent pitcher.
So you're going to just throw away Gurriel Jr. because he's had a slow start while Grichuk has been hot? How about looking at their stats over the past two seasons
AB/BA/OBP/HR/RBI/R
2020
Gurriel Jr. 208/.308/.348/11/33/28
Grichuk 216/.273/.312/12/35/38
2019
Gurriel Jr. 314/.277/.327/20/50/52
Grichuk 586/.232/.280/31/80/75

Seems to me that Gurriel Jr. is the superior hitter. Neither one of them defends particularly well so that's a wash. Grichuk is 29 and Gurriel Jr. is 24.

I say move Grichuk now while he's hot.

Most of the Jays lineup is batting a buck-and-change. That will clearly change.

So far, Vlad, Grich and Bo are carrying the team on their backs.

Ryu has a glute strain, hopefully he won't be out too long.

He's had this injury before during his Dodger days.

The American League West standings

AsSHAT, if you check the standings by their ballcaps.

I didn't know who Steve Matz was before this season, he's impressive. I know it was a matter of free agency but if the trade was Taijuan Walker for Mr. Matz, I'm happy with it. Supposedly he had an off year with the Mets last season and they wouldn't re-sign him. Whatever, if he continues pitching with authority I'll have to start calling him Steve Mazzone...for the "big pile" of batters no reaching base safely.

And he does bear a striking resemblance to character actor David Tennant, perhaps the most popular Dr. Who. Whom he played for eight seasons.

Grichuk has matured as a hitter , he's a very good outfielder.

Gurriel is not 24, he will be 28 this year.
My bad. I misread. He made his debut with the Jays at 24.
I will agree with you in that Grichuk looks like a different hitter in 2020 and 2021, albeit a small sample size. In his 2 years as a Jay prior to Covid19 hitting, his OBP was dismal and he was striking out at a 26% clip. In 2020 and 2021 so far he's only striking out 16% of the time. Big improvement. But his defense is subpar he's had a negative defensive WAR for 3 of the past 4 seasons prior to 2021.

After two quiet games, Vlady wanted to stir the drink. Youngest player to hit 3 dingers in a game.
