the joke goes like this ...Edwin Encarnacion and his parrot go into a bar, Edwin orders 2 beers, the bartender says that will be $35..the bartender then says.."hey we don't get too many parrots in here"...the parrot says..."at these prices, you wont get any more"

Yanks lose, now 5 back with 6 to play. Magic # = 2

Jays riding a 5 game winning streak. Once again, the hottest team in the AL.

It really is all over now for the Yanks, except the arithmetic. We could clinch the AL East as early as tomorrow.

KC locked in a 0-0 with Cubs. Texas being pounded by Verlander and the Tiggies.

Yanks lose to Bosox. Magic # down to 2!
Last 2 games were come from behind wins. Scrappy, fighting back, bodes well for the playoffs.

Isn`t the magic number 1 since the Jays hold the head-to-head tiebreaker?
IDK if they go w head-to-head tiebreaker or an extra game playoff to break a tie for division champ.

Out of interest, 92 or 93 wins takes the AL E. 89 wins took the AL C. Likely no one in the AL W will even win that many. Texas has 84 and is getting chomped by DET tonight with only 6 games left.

Or I guess they would have a 1 game playoff for the pennant.

Yeah, I just heard this answer on sports radio. When they started the 2 wild card teams a few years ago, they make the tied teams play a 1 game tiebreaker. H2H record no longer counts for the division win; but still counts for home field ad.

Matters fuck all. Yanks will lose at least 1 more out of the next 3 to Sox who are malignant little buggers to play. We'll win at least 1 more against O's. Et voila, as they say in Paree!

BTW, I really hate this 2nd wild card team format. a 1 game wild card to see who moves on is ridiculous.
I get the reasons for it:
* more teams in the mix during the stretch run, higher attendance and TV interest
* give more advantage for the division winners, by making the wildcard teams beat up each other with their aces, while the div winners rest up and get the 2nd best starter in game 1.

If owners want revenue, then expand the playoffs like hockey or basketball; top 8 teams in each league.
This 1 game coin toss is just silly.

Whoa, looks like we dodged a bullet by not signing Papelbon
He looks like the type of guy who could start a barroom brawl by himself.

Thank you AA, for not signing this clown

Baseball does have climate issues to worry about though.

True, but I also think the 162 game season is too long. They should go back to the 154 game season.
One round of playoff for 16 teams should more than offset the revenue loss of 8 regular season games for 32 teams.
