I have a feeling at least one game is going to be nasty, maybe some benches being cleared. Showlater is a very sore loser and not a class act
Wouldnt it be awesome if Jays clinched on Orioles homefield and celebrated right in their faces??!!

That would be karma come full circle :biggrin1:

OK, leave out pitching extra inning part, G still should have let B go out for the 7th and replace him BEFORE the 1st batter to let him have the ovation he deserves. Not compromising a win, and all it takes is 1min extra. The 47K fans are happy, the teammates are happy.
Baseball is a game of tradition and recognizing achievement. I still remember a few years back, when it was determined that Ichiro would NOT reach 200 hits for a 11th season, the OPPOSING players lead an ad hoc standing ovation.

B will never complain but these achievements are usually recognized in baseball.
Good idea but against the rules. If a pitcher takes the mound to start an inning, he must fce at least one batter....unless the opposing manager uses a pinch hitter. Maybe something could have been worked out with the umpires and Kevin Cash to ignore the rule

I think thats in the case of a new pinch hitter. Ive seen this done many times before for much less significant circumstances. Maybe with the implicit agreement of opp manager.

Maybe its a good thing we didnt get Papelbon. A summary:

Bryce Harper doesnt run out a flyball.
Papelbon doesnt like it. Takes exception.
Grabs Harper by the throat and pushes him down dugout.
Papelbon continues pitching.
Papelbon gives up 2 runs.
Papelbon loses the game.
Papelbon gets suspended for rest of season....LOL

Gibby totally made the right move in pulling Buehrle out after six innings. He doesn't need to apologize for anything even though he did because he's a nice guy.
I was hoping he'd go to the pen to start the seventh because I was worried Buehrle would let the first 2 batters get on base.
What if Buerle allows a couple of runs in the 7th and lady luck turns against the Jays and they go on a slump to close out the season and the Yankees win the division and then the Jays lose the wild card to Houston's ace pitcher.
Something similar happened in 1989 or so.

Back in the middle of August the Jays were playing in California against the Angels on a Saturday night and something like 300 people from Aaron Sanchez' home town bused in to see the game and hopefully watch him pitch; but, Gibby wouldn't let him pitch an inning because their wasn't a Sanchez situation that developed.
I was a bit peeved at Gibby for leaving him out of the game; but, after I thought about it he was absolutely right. He's got to do what's right for the team not for one individual.
Anyway, Buehrle has made over 100 million over his career playing a kid's game; so, he's lucky to have to endure the hardship of not pitching 200 innings this year if that's the way it plays out.
A lot of people would kill to have trivial problems like that. Like all those boat people refugees all over the planet drowning in the seas.
Those people have problems. Not Mark Buehrle. He's like a kid in the candy store of life.
Amen. Well said, KT.

I would be surprised if Buehrle didn't understand and appreciate Gibby's reasoning and go along with it. At a time like this, the team has got to come first and Mark appears to be a good club house guy.

It would take a strong manager to sit Buehrle for the playoffs, but IMO it needs to be done.

Buehrle will not make a good short/long reliever either in the playoffs or world series, so his 2015 season might be done
