I just checked the box score online for the Jays-Tribe game. When did JP sign Nuke Laloosh?

5 Runs with 10 K's and 6 BBs

How many times did he hit the mascot and the scorekeeper? Sounds like he is going to need Crash Davis and Annie Savoie to help him along this season. If all of a sudden Purcey starts wearing garters and breathing thru his eyelids like the lava lizards, you know he is in for a good season. :p

Purcey didn't do badly. One of those 5 runs came from an error and another 2 came through Carlson. In retrospect seems like it was a mistake to bring Carlson on at that point as Purcey had already struck out the guy he was due to face twice already.

Bullpen imploding tonight. Brandon League especially.

They had a chance at the end of the 5th (?) innings to draw level with runners on 2nd and 3rd base with one out, and couldn't score. Sums up the evening.

Need a miracle in the 9th innings.

Wow, Travis Snider belts a couple of upper-deck shots in Minnesota tonight. This kid reminds me of when Delgado first came up and was crushing homers. He just has a sort of presence at the plate, you can feel it. He's a future all-star no doubt.

Buckle your seat belts. Looks like Ryan is coming in with a 2 run lead. (I can't look. Is it a train wreck?)

Well, BJ closes it out for 8 - 6 win.
But his fastball is only going at 86 mph and he allowed 2 base hits.
Cito says, he will stay as closer "till he starts to hurt the team".

Hope Litsch doesn't have a serious injury. "Right forearm stiffness".
How many more pitchers can possible go down?

10 wins in a row over Minnesota and 19 hits in the game. It's been a long long time since a Jays team has pounded out hits like this one.

86MPH is a changeup for most pitchers. Query: When will Rios hit a home run?
Doug Jones was one of the best closers throughout the 1990's and never touched 85.... thing was he could throw his changeup at wide ranges in speed and keep a deceptive delivery.

Was he a "junk" pitcher with pinpoint control? At 86MPH, Ryan might have to be a "finesse" pitcher to be successful.

2 HRs for Travis Snider tonight....

Can we now say he is for real; or is he just doing his best Carlos Delgado '94 impersonation?

BTW, if he is real, we'll give you Melky, Damon, and Kennedy for him.

BJ looked a lot better than last time. In particular, he blew by Morneau twice with high fastballs. Morneau was probably silly to chase up so high and he ended up winning the duel anyhow.

Not sure if I have recovered some of my confidence with BJ or not. 2 hits isn't too great. OTOH, Morneau is one of the AL's premier sluggers.

Think this Travis Snider is going to be best Jays hitter since Carlos Delgado arrived on scene way back in 94 or so.
Very calm, very confident, smooth swing, and for 21 he's supposed to have maturity of someoone who's 30 or so.

Heres a quote from recent National Post article:

"Gaston sees a budding star. When Snider joined the Jays, Gaston quizzed him on his plan at the plate. "He said, ‘I'm going to look for a fastball down and away.' I thought, ‘That's a pretty tough pitch to hit.' Second time up he hit a double in the gap. I said, ‘OK, he can do it.' "

They are so unlucky with their pitching this year. Let's hope he recovers quickly.

Maybe Janssen will be an option when he returns next month? He has looked good on occasions. Seems like all the other options have been tried and failed. In the short-term maybe Brett Cecil as he's seen as strong part of the future?

One thing you can say about Ricciardi is that he's developed into a better drafter of players over the years.
Snider has a good shot to be rookie of the year in AL and Romero could be in top 5 in rookie voting if he keeps pitching this well.

In fact I'd say Romero is already the #2 pitcher on this team behind Halladay.
Brett Cecil could be pitching at the MLB level by the end of the year. He's developing quickly in the minors with a nice fastball and a great slider.
It's a process making Cecil into a starter because he was a closer at The University of Maryland.

In other pitching news, people don't want to talk about this; but, Casey Janssen's career is most likely toast thanks to that torn labrum. It's the most difficult injury to come back from in MLB. Usually a death sentence for a pitcher.
He was one of my favourite young pitchers on this team too. Too bad. He tossed a couple of brilliant games in rookie season against the L.A. Angels.
After a torn labrum, something like 95% of pitchers never recover the form they used to have before the injury according to this:
http://www.slate.com/id/2100895/
For comparison purposes, 85% of players recover to previous form after Tommy John surgery.

Anyway, young Jays pitchers are lucky to have Brad Arnsberg as pitching coach. Might be best pitching coach in MLB.

The Jays are obviously doing something right, when it comes to their pitching. Lately, it seems it doesn't matter who they run out, they get the job done. Lose AJ Burnett and his 18 wins (off to a terrific start so far BTW), no big deal. A starter or two goes down, plug someone else in and they don't seem to miss a beat. Freaking incredible.

Jays are getting set up really well for next season.
Halladay, plus Marcum, McGowan, Cecil, Purcey, Romero, Litsch.
Take best 4 of 6 after Halladay and that's setting up for a good challenge for 2010.
Be interesting to see what the team does when they come out of AL Central teams. Too bad they don't play in that division.
Also, J.P. Ricciardi has decided not to do Wednesdays with J.P. anymore on the Fan590 after Wednesday games. That's a sign to me that he wants to move on and do other things after this season. He doesn't have a contract for next year.

Or go with the youngsters and trade Halladay for blue chip prospects and/or immediate everyday help or use his freed up salary on free agents.

As I've said many times, they would have made the playoffs a couple of times playing in the central or west. No Yanks or Sox (red ones).

Or maybe he got burned/burned himself with some candid comments he made last year that came back and bit him in the ass.
