Yes they kick ass in September every year when it doesn't mean anything ... When they needed it they got swept by the Red Sox
Maybe they should use 'the call-ups' in April and bring the veterans back up in September.

Gee, looks like Doc is going to pitch against Boston on Wednesday. Fuck, it seems as though all he does is face the Red Sox, Yankees & Rays, especially the Rays!

Well the Jays are almost done. The 2009 highlights have to be Hill, Lind, Halladay and Romero and the happy departure of Rios with honourable mentions to Barrajas and Chavez.

Vernon "0 for 4" Wells is setting himself up to be comeback player of the year in 2010.

how many more times did Doc have to face the Yanks Red Sox and Rays then the other guys he is competing against in the Cy Young race ..
That is why the most objective sports are the "timed" and "measured" sports. Everybody races against the same clock or tape measure.

I think the best pitcher is the one who allows the least earned runs. Wins are deceiving because anybody can win pitching for the Yankees.

Looks like the Doc is facing the Boston "B" team tonight. He just plunked Ortiz in the side (payback time). Got to love the Doc. Let's hope he wins his 17th.

What is really amazing is that Hill and Lind look as strong or even stronger in September as they did in April.

Encarnacion, Bautista and Ruiz?

All of the above finished hot with great power #'s and production and it raises the question as to how they would fare if they started regularly all season long.

Interested in guys' opinions. Do you think that E and B were in great shape in September because they had played less the previous 5 months and were relatively fresh against worn down pitchers? Were they just on brief hot streaks? Or are they potentially the real thing?

Ditto Ruiz. Is it just a question of time before pitchers figure him out? Or might he actually contribute next year?

That is the funny thing about the Cy Young award eh ... If you just look at stats then it's black and white and you pic your winner but if you look at stats closer , how many more times did Doc have to face the Yanks Red Sox and Rays then the other guys he is competing against in the Cy Young race ..
Also, I heard the blue jays color or play by play guy say that in Docs 10 losses, they team have just produced 22 runs.

Partly true. If I remember correctly, those 10 losses include a run of poor form (by his standards) by Halladay in 5 or 6 games. In the other losses he didn't have much run support.
