6 runs in support of the Doc so far. Should be enough.

This Randy Ruiz looks pretty good. He is 31, probably a late developer.

Halladay is having another bad outing. Maybe need 15 runs to win the way pitching is going tonight.

In 3 at bats, Kazmir is making Vernon Wells look like a fool:p . Plus, Kazmir almost killed 2 home plate umps.

I think VW should bat left handed :p for the balance of the season. That way he starts off being 3 feet closer to 1B.

Just watched the Jays/Rays game tonight.

some observations and thoughts..

Top 2nd

- some nice defense by the Johnny Mac and by Snider in this inning. Great def. play by McDonald to get Burrell for the 2nd out of the inning

Bot 2nd

- nice defensive play by Longoria on that hard hit ball down the left field line by Ruiz. Longoria did well to keep that ball in the infield. Even though he didnt get Ruiz out he did at least prevent Millar from getting to 3B or possibly even scoring. Ruiz also showed off his speed on that play too.

- Blue Jays had the bases loaded in this inning w/ 1 out but were unable to cash anyone in

Top 3rd

- Rzepczynski loaded up the bases with 3 consecutive BBs after 2 quick outs in this inning but eventually got Longoria to ground out to SS to end the Rays threat

Top 5th

-Rzepczynski seemed to get better as the game went along, his breaking ball was very good tonight and as the Rays went the 3rd time around the batting order Rzepczynski started to use the fastball more in this inning to get guys out.

Bot 5th

- I'm surprised the Jays didnt put the bunt on with Johnny Mac at the plate after Snider reached on a HBP. Considering that Toronto was struggling to get base runners on you would think the % play would be to bunt and give yourself two cracks at scratching across a run. Cito disagreed though.

- Jays had runners on 2nd and 3rd in this inning but then Scutaro popped out to 2B and Hill struck out.

Top 6th

- Burrell broke up the Rzepczynski no-hitter and then Kapler hit a 2 run HR. The pitch was a mistake by Rzepczynski , he wanted it but floated it over the plate. Bad pitch to Kapler , Rzepczynski just missed his spot.

- nice defensive play by Chavez throwing out Zaun at 2B.

Bot 6th

- Millar lead off the inning with a double but upon replay it looked like Zobrist may have gotten him out (the umpire was unsighted though as his vision seemed to be blocked by Millar)

- Millar ended up scoring on the Bautista double to narrow the gap to 2-1 TB.

- scary moment when Kazmir struck uot Snider and the pitch hit the home plate umpire. I gotta say though I really like Tom Hallion's animated strike call.

Top 8th

- good job by Downs to get out of a jam after giving up the single and BB to start the inning. Getting Longoria to ground into the 1-4-3 DP and then striking out Burrell.

Bot 8th

- Nice piece of hitting by Bautista with 2 out and V.Dub at 1B. TB elected to hold V.Dub on 1B and that kept the right side open and Bautista just shot the hole to the right side. Unfortunately Howell came in and struck out Snider to end the inning.

Bot 9th:

-Funny that Tabby and Black were discussing how JP Howell's delivery reminds them a little bit of Mitch Williams how he sort of falls down after the pitch. Well like Mitch Williams Howell gave up a HR to left field. Barajas did it to tie up the game.

- heads up base running by Scutaro on that Hill deep fly ball to CF to tag-up and advance to 2B.

- JP Howell just totally lost his command in this inning and thats unusual because he usually has pretty good command. But he issued 3 BBs in the inning and put 3 balls in the dirt. Zaun did a good job of blocking the first two and keeping the ball in front of him but 3rd time was the charm. With the bases loaded Howell threw a wildpitch and Scutaro scored the GW run.

- Kazmir and Rzepczynski each pitched very well I though though Rzepczynski did issue a few too many BBs. Both pitchers struck out a lot of guys but they are totally different style pitchers. Kazmire did it with the power and got a lof of his K's swinging where as Rzepczynski got mos of his Ks with the batter's looking on called strikes.

- Tabby mentioned during the telecast that the Jays will likely be shutting down Cecil and Rzepczynski fairly soon as the Jays only want to add no more than 30% to these young pitchers IP from last year. I agree with Tabby though I dont think the Jays should really apply this to Rzepczynski b/c he is not a max-effort pitcher , its not like he blows the ball by you.

Although he's not a power pitcher remember Rz is throwing as hard as he can. So therefore he needs to be shutdown for the same reasons. Jesse Litsch is a good example of a not so hard thrower who blew out his elbow just the same.

Actually, throwing a curveball puts more strain on your elbow and wrist than a straight-up fastball. When I was in Little League we were ORDERED not to throw a curveball until we turned 15 years old.

Me too, I throw as hard as I can and my fastball rarely breaks 80MPH:p . Trust me, I am throwing HARD.

Ive never pitched though myself or played baseball at a high level other than just with friends in a park but that doesnt really count so I was just taking Tabby's word at face value. I just thought it was interesting that Tabby was saying that Rzepciniski should not be shutdown.

I appreciate the insight though Oracle.

I like Tabby. He still thinks, at least publicly, that VW will return from the dead. With the young pitchers, let's err on the side of caution. No point taking any risk since the team is already dead in the water.

How is our friend Alex Rios doing in Chicago?

Last I heard, batting .216 and they've sat him a game or two.

The Chicago Alex is actually worst than the Toronto Alex. Alex is like a former GF, you feel sorry for her current BF.

Not really. Unlike a former GF, they got to see what the performance was like prior. No surprises.

According to Associated Press:

Tampa Bay dumps salary by trading away Scott Kazmir to Angels for minor leaguers.
He is due to make $30 Million between 2010 - 2012.
Contrary to what a lot of people might think money is a big problem for Tampa Bay and so maybe the next 5 years aren't going to be as great as a lot of people expect for Tampa.
Carl Crawford is due for free agency after 2011 ; so, be interesting to see if they can sign him.
