Travis Snider is eligible for Rookie of the year. He is on pace for 972 RBI's this year :)

No he isn't it was Adam Lind who had the 6 rbi's not Snider.

Perhaps you were thinking of Adam Lind? If you had the two players confused, then Lind no longer has rookie status, while Snider certainly does.

I was pretty sure that Lind had lost his rookie status but wasn't sure about Snider because he was called up in late 2008. Good to know that Travis can compete for Rookie of the Year honours. Anybody remember past Blue Jay Rookies of the Year?

Snider only had 73 AB just shy of 130 AB.

Blue Jays' Rookie of the Year!

1979 - Alfredo Griffin
2002 - Eric Hinske
2009- Travis Snider????????

Oakland A's had 3 consecutive Rookie of the year

1986 - José Canseco
1987 - Mark McGwire
1988 - Walt Weiss

BUT the LA Dodgers had FIVE in a row
1992 - Eric Karros
1993 - Mike Piazza
1994 - Raúl Mondesí
1995 - Hideo Nomo
1996 - Todd Hollandsworth

I think JP will be GONE by July 1 if the Jays are not at tleast in a race for first place. Cito's job will be safe but JP I wouldbt hold my breath for. Its like the Leafs how many years in a row can you "rebuild" .

What? You think 8 years into a 5 year plan is unacceptable? :p

On a more positive note they have started well this season at least in terms of offense. Like to think that is partly due to Lind and Snider. Rios, Wells and Overbay have started poorly though.

Hopefully they can keep that offense going against Cleveland but they have a poor recent record against them so this series will be a good test of how far they have moved on from last year's under-performing team.

Big night for Richmond. It would be quite a surprise to see him do well tonight given his recent run of form.

Rios can never seem to put 2 good halfs together. Wells seems get hurt just running the bases. Overbay has never been the same since his hand injury.

Looks like the #5 spot in pitching rotation is going to be a huge black hole for the Jays at least till McGowan comes back in May.
Reminds me of 06, 07 seasons when the Jays kept having to parade people like Josh Towers into the #5 slot to deliver automatic losses.

That is pretty typical for most teams. Their number 5 guy isn't going to win a lot of games. Not many teams can run out 4-5 top quality pitchers. My Red Sox have Wakefield and at best, he is going to be a .500 pitcher. I have come to expect a loss every time he pitches. If he wins, that's a bonus. If he can eat up some innings, he gives your bullpen a break. The good thing is that most of the time, your number 5 guy will face the opposing teams' number 5 guy.

I think Blue Jay fans got spoiled last year because their 3,4, and 5 pitchers were very good by any reasonable standard that you have for evaluating 3, 4, 5 rank pitchers on a squad. If they didn't have just about the worst hitting in the majors they would have competed for playoff spot. I'm pretty sure the Blue Jays had best pitching in American League last year or at worst they ranked #2.

If they had A.J. Burnett on this team this year I think they could realistically compete for a playoff spot because hitters seem much better this year than last year.

Much too early to say but Romero as the number 4 pitcher did well yesterday. With the delay in tonight's game I don't know what's going to happen with Richmond as the number 5 pitcher but his start hasn't been that bad. :)

Sometime later in the season they should have McGowan and probably Marcum back so starting pitching will not be a problem from then on.

How good will McGowan and Marcum be when they return? BJ Ryan came back and has not been impressive.

What a role reversal so far this year ... Scott Rolen hitting .467 and Troy Glaus out till Jne for Cards ..

I know it's very early but Jays fans could not have wished for a better start. Just possibly Richmond could have got the win last night as the Jays were 5 - 3 up when the game was suspended. He'd got to 74 pitches so still possibly 2 more innings pitching to the middle and bottom order.

Right now Jays top offensively across all of baseball. :)

Like you said - it's very early. Jason Varitek leads the Sox in HRs and we all know that will change. So......... :p

Well, another shaky performance by BJ Ryan. Thank goodness for that double play ball he drew by Shoppach or things could have unfolded very differently. But even the double play ball was very sharply hit. I know his velocity has been a topic of discussion and a concern but today I think it was more location than velocity. BJ just could not find the plate. Frasor's circle change up saved the day though and I think we have to give credit to Barajas as well for calling a good game behind the plate and playing good defensively as well, they didnt give Martinez a look at a single fastball.

Ryan definately isn't playing well. I don't know what they can do with him though.

He had 32 saves last year out of 36 chances, so that was good. Not the same player this year - at least at this moment. :(

At least Halladay got a well deserved win. Thank goodness for that and Jays continued strong offence.
