Good point captain fantastic. If you have read my posts in the past on the football and basketball threads you know that I almost never question moves by coaches and/or managers. They are there for a reason like you said.

You are 100% right in this case. And I was wrong about Aaron Hill's AB. I'm glad you pointed this out to me. You wont get any argument from me. Hindsight is 20/20 and its easy to say that Hill should have wasted the innings first out after seeing what happened but with 0 outs going for the base hit is the correct play with Wells on-deck.

On an unrelated note, I understand Johnny Mac wanting to steal 3rd so he could score with a deep fly ball with less than 2 outs but it seemed like the Phillies knew it was coming.

BTW, I look forward to talking more football with you once football season comes around. It was an absolute pleasure talking football with you last season on the various threads.

• Put up a pinch hitter that forced the Phils to make a decision with their pitchers.
• Called the bunt that worked and started the rally.
• Put in a pinch runner. (Is it Cito's fault McDonald had a brain freeze?)
• Let his best hitter swing away instead of over-managing and wasting the first out of an inning.

GOD NO, NOT JOKING! Wouldn't want the players to be loose in a pressure-packed situation.

As I stated earlier, thank God Cito is the manager and not some of you knuckleheads - the Jays would be in last place and in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes.

This team is the biggest bunch of over-achievers in Jays' history (except for Wells and his JP-inflated contract - even Rios is coming around) and you'd fire him for having the Jays right in the hunt of the toughest division in baseball. My favourite part is that you give no solution or alternative.

Posts like the one above are the reason I don't post much anymore.

Loyalty. Cito has always had it. And most of the time it worked out for him. Recall the winning years - Devon White would start out slowly and always have a low OPS for a leadoff hitter yet Cito stuck with him and he was money when the team needed him.

Look at the Mets with Delgado last year - from nearly cut to MVP candidate. Same with Big Papi this year, perhaps.

Cito knows Vernon Wells better than you or I. He knows what buttons to push, etc., more than you or I ever will. Wells hit .300 last year with an .840 OPS. 2006 he went .303/.357/.542/.899 with 32 bombs, 40 doubles and 100+ rbi.

Vernon Wells was never worth the contract JP signed him to, but that's not his fault. He goes out and does his best - and that's all we can ask. He's not loafing or quitting. And for God's sake, let Cito manage his way - his two World Series rings and 91-71 record since coming back say he has earned that right.

"Cito knows how to work with each individual, treating everyone like a human being. He knows exactly what to say, when to say it, what to do and how to go about doing it. When you have a manager like that, it makes you want to play for the guy. We'd go to war for him. What Cito has done for the Blue Jays can't be taken lightly."

Did anyone catch tonight's game? Good first outing off the DL by Doc. Nice to see him back - without Halladay, this team has next to no chance.

Gotta love TB's young pitching (Jeff Niemann was great tonight), even after they made a horrible trade giving away Edwin Jackson (a 25-year old stud starter) for a 4th outfielder now in the minors. Nice to see the young Rays are not a flash in the pan (although their bullpen is a bit suspect), even if it's at the expense of the Jays.

I watched the game tonight and it was nice to see Barajas throwing out two runners trying to steal 2nd base. Also I thought there seemed to be some confusion defensively by Tampa a couple of times. Doc pitched very well. I hope that fan that threw some drink at BJ Upton got kicked out of the game.

By the way, anyone watch Sunday night baseball last night?

What in the world was going on in the top of the 9th? The Yankees were up 3-2 in the top of the 9th and had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out with Jeter at the plate and the pitchers spot due up next. Rivera had come in to relieve Bruney in the bottom of the 8th to get the last out. So Joe Morgan and STeve Phillips were saying "they gotta walk Jeter intentionally". The Yankees were trying to trick the Mets into thinking that they were gonna pinch hit for Rivera if Jeter got on base. They had Francisco Cervelli on the on-deck circle and Rivera was sitting in the dugout wearing the batting helmet and the batting gloves so you know Rivera was gonna come up next. Obviously the Yankees were NOT gonna pinch hit for Rivera because at the time it was still a 1-run game and they obviously did not want to take Rivera out of the game b/c you would want him to pitch in the bot of the 9th inning. Having Cervelli on deck was just a ploy they were using to try and trick the Mets and I think Jerry Manuel actually got tricked. Because they pitched a strike on the first pitch to Jeter!

What if Jeter had hit that ball? Then at 2-1 they decided to intentionally walk him but I mean throwing him a strike was ridiculous.

Honestly, what's fair value for Doc?

Yankees - Anything short of Joba and Hughes (plus more) would not get me to answer the phone. (Unless they accept Wells or Ryan)

Red Sox - Ellsbury, Lester/Bucholz to start. (They can have Wells too)

Granted JP won't trade him within the division. For any team to get Doc they better be offering up at least 2-3 young and ready players (I'm not talking AAA, I mean playing today!). Plus said team must accept either Wells or Ryan (taking Wells will only increase the expected return).

However, we will entertain trading Doc for Julio Lugo if the Sox add in Theo for JP; if not he's gonna need more than a gorilla suit to leave Toronto.

Hill just signed a four year contract through 2011.
