What are the chances he will ever qualify for these bonus awards?

Anyone watch tonights Jays/Rays game?

Nice debut for Rzepczynski. I thought he pitched pretty well. He was doing a good job of pitching backwards using fastballs when ahead in the count and breaking balls when behind in the count. Unfortunately the BBs in the the 4th inning hurt the Jays and BBs cannot be defesnsed. I think Cito wanted to try and get 7 innings out of Rzepzynski but the 4 BBs and 7Ks really hurt his pitch count. Shields matched him pitch for pitch though.

I thought the Blue Jays missed some opportunities early in the game to score some runs as they left a lot of runners stranded.

The Blue Jays did a fantastic job of keeping Upton off the base paths though and anytime you can keep speed off the basepaths is a good thing.

Some nice defensive plays in this game too. Overbay made a nice def play in the 7th to save a lead off error from Scutaro. Scutaro's throw pulled Overbay off the bag but he was able to tag Bartlett.

Another nice defensive play by Uptin in the 8th inning to throw out Hill at the plate - good job too by Navarro to block the plate.

V.Dub had a good night tonight, very easily could have been 4 for 5 instead of 3 for 5.

Not sure what League was doing in the 10th, he probably should have let the ball drop b/c Navarro was just standing in the box. If League lets the ball drop its an easy double play. Fortunately that was not the play that won the game for the Rays.

Seemed like the home plate umpires K-Zone was inconsistent throughout this game and for the most part it seemed as though the Blue Jays were benefitting from that. I recall Rzepczynski getting UPton on a pitch that appeared to be outside early in the game but then in the 4th inning Rzepczynski threw a better pitch to Upton but the homeplate called it a ball.
Then in the 5th inning Upton got called for another strike on a questionable pitch.

Totally gotta agree with Tabler's idea for the World Series Homefield advantage. Id rather it be done based on the results of intereleague play. If MLB wants the All-Star game to count I would be okay with using the All-Star game as a tiebreaker if the interleague results is a tie. But Tabler's idea is a good one.

I spent most of the evening trying unsuccessfully to convince a cute dancer to come back to my place to "carry on a conversation".

Anyway, got back (alone) in time to catch the 9th inning (pleasantly surprised that it was tied at 1-1 with a raw rookie starting pitcher) and rest of the game.

Is Rzepczynski a lefthander? Are Cecil and Romero also lefthanders? And is Mills a lefthander too?

It's hard enough to watch the Jays without Rod Black droning on and on and on about the obvious. If he has nothing interesting to say, and he generally doesn't, I wish he'd just shut the fuck up.

Rod's vocabulary is more suited to figure skating (he is great at calling those events) or gymnastics as opposed to baseball. It would be fun to hear him call a football game though...

He calls CFL games right now and it is just as bad as listening to him call baseball games.

Yes, they have to pay him (does this eat into the salary cap?) but it opens up room on the 25 man roster for another pitcher. (My best friend had to pay his ex-wife $20million:( but it freed him to marry again.)

But is the radio call synced up with the TV feed? Or is it out of sync?

I do like Jerry and Alan as well on their radio calls. I like Jamie and Darren though when Fletcher does the games. I like his layed back style.

There is no salary cap in Major League Baseball.

For the second time, in as many years, JP's signings have come back to bite him in the butt. I called it the day he signed Frank Thomas that the deal would be a huge flop, and it was. I've said many times how much I disagree with paying closers the kind of money they have been getting lately. If not for any of the other reason, why has JP not been fired? He's as bad as JFJ in Leaf-land; if not worse. I don't remember the last time a team had to release players with similar contracts; let alone the two the Jays have had to bite. Small market team has payed out over thirty-million bones in the last two seasons to players who aren't even playing. Unbelievable!!

For his sake let's hope JP has better talents at picking wives:p . Otherwise, he is paying a lot of alimony to ladies he isn't even engaging in "wambo minki" anymore.

In JP's defence, BJ was lights out for the first couple of seasons - perhaps 1 of the best closers I have seen.

Arm trouble is not predictable and that is what wrecked BJ's career.

I agree he was very good - nowhere near the best - for one season (he blew out his arm early in year two) and more importantly, helped Toronto establish a pecking order for a bullpen in chaos...

But 5-year contracts for 30-year old pitchers (in particular closers) with herky-jerky motions and without a proven track record are always dangerous. Keep in mind that BJ wasn't a closer in Baltimore until his last season there.
