I love everything about this song but being the hip hop head that I am, that drum into at the beginning is straight up 🔥

My gosh the music that came out of SOLAR is just exquisite. Leon Sylvers III and Dick Griffey are black music legends

Two white bands emulating classic black blues styles...

First, here's a great T-Bone Walker style tune

And now an Elmore James style song

Interesting that both album covers show the guitarist with a Gibson ES-5, which was T-Bone Walker's primary guitar from 1949 though the 50's.

Shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of DJ Mister Cee AKA The Finisher yesterday afternoon. He was 57 years old. He started as rapper Big Daddy Kane's DJ on his debut album Long Live the Kane (1988). He was also instrumental in helping build the career of fellow Brooklyn (Bed-Stuy) native Notorious BIG in the early 90's. For almost two decades he had a popular radio show on Hot97 and then more recently had a M-F nightly show on LL Cool J's Rock the Bells radio Sirius/XM. He also produced several hip hop mixtapes in the 1990's and early 2000's. I listened to part of his show on Tuesday night certainly not knowing that would be the last live show he would ever do. Surreal. RIP 🙏

In honor of this true hip hip pioneer here are 3 joints he was a part of

1. Notorious BIG freestyle

2. Mister Cee's Master Plan

3. Getta Grip Muthaphuckers Pt. 2 (mixtape)

Teddy was the man. This was produced not by Gamble and Huff, but by McFadden and Whitehead.

I can't believe this sound is from 1972. Way ahead of its time. Marvin was a master. Here he's playing the drums

Kindred the Family Soul are one of the very few contemporary r&b/soul artists keeping it down. This is from their Legacy of Love LP released in 2016.
