A lot of Tribe Called Quest fans weren't feeling The Love Movement when it dropped in 1998. Even today there's a hate on for this album but I don't know why. I personally think its dope overall. Yes not at classic level of Midnight Marauders or The Low End Theory but still a good listen that has stood the test of time. The production was handled by The Ummah - a conglomerate of J. Dilla, Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. It marked a bit of an evolution in Tribe's sound one from jazzy boom bap to a more neo soul type sound. Here's a selection of 3 of my top cuts from the album

As you know I've posted quite a bit of Kool and the Gang. I consider them to be one of the most important and influential artists in black music history.
This jam from 1979 (an unbelievably good year for black music) is such a smooth vibe. The bassline drives it.

While this dude is an exceptional guitarist it doesn't have the bluesy feel of B.B.'s. I'll still give it a thumbs up because the tempo and pitch changes are pretty cool.
Faith Evans was also n the Bad Boy Records label. I consider her Mary J. Blige 1A. She had a nice run of albums but not quite the longevity or quality of Mary J, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul.

As you likely know Donald Byrd is my favorite jazz artist. I found him through my love of hip hop because he was sampled so much. Here's another great track from him
"Think Twice" from hi s1974 album Stepping Into Tomorrow.

This track has some exceptional musical talent. Besides Byrd and his trumpet they had Chuck Rainey on bass, Harvey Mason on drums, Jerry Peters on piano, Larry Mizell on the Fender Rhodes, synthesizers and Fonce Mizell on clarinet and trumpet.
Interesting note The Mizell Brothers were 1st cousins to Jam Master Jay from Run DMC and also to Ronnie Spector.
