With the vapid state of music these days, if Lauryn Hill made a stream of original music, she would destroy.

Not a deep discography for her but so much quality. Her only solo LP 'Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' is a 💎

Lakeside was on the SOLAR label. Probably the act I am least familiar with on that label, outside of their major hits like "Fantastic Voyage" and "All the Way Live". This one I'm really digging. The Leon Sylvers III sound is so signature

Some punk on X tryin' to tell me MC Lyte would get ate up by contemporary female MC's. Ain't no way. Here she is in 2006, 15+ years after her peak. My #2 female rapper of all time.

Great cut anytime, but especially on the weekend. The Queen could rap but she could also sang. And she can act. Super talented lady.

I was going through some old mp3 files and came across this tune from 1987.
"Just Call" by Sherrick

Interesting back story to this singer. He was signed to Motown by Berry Gordy's ex wife in the mid 80's. He was the lead singer of a group called Kagny which recorded a song for The Last Dragon soundtrack. Ended up producing a solo album and this was the most successful song from it. It reached #7 on the R&B chart. After this album he disappeared from the spotlight. Apparently had all kinds of issues with drugs. He reappeared a decade later said he was drug free and was planning to go into the studio to release his next album. A month later he was dead at 41 years old. Unknown cause of death.
Years later the radio host/DJ Wendy Williams alleges in her biopic that Sherrick raped her on a date back in the 80's. Of course he wasn't here to defend the allegation. Perhaps its true but no doubt she had motive to lay the claim.
