I don’t know if he would have won, or if even I would vote for him, but the DNC dictating that it was Hilary’s turn has had massive historical implications.

I still don’t believe a reckoning will come. Theyre gonna try a top down candidate installation again. They haven’t learned anything.

Joe Scarborough on MSDNC talking like heisn’t a huge part of the problem is a great example of how out of touch with reality, but also how easily the senior members of the DNC will flat out lie to their audience.
I believe the Republicans will be in the same spot in 2028 that the Dems were in in 2016.
Obama was big shoes to fill.
There was no one to fill those shoes especially against a populist like Trump.
Trump will be big shoes to fill too.
The right candidate in 2016 would have been a radical one just like Trump was radical at that time. (Bernie imo).
But as you say the DNC does not learn.
They want their establishment candidates.
If they still haven't learned, they need to wake up and see that the overton window has shifted to populism.
That or Trump's 2nd term is a complete disaster that people start craving for a change.

Trump is projected to clinch Michigan, according to NBC News.
He then will be at 291 electoral votes.
  • Trump 49.75%
  • Harris 48.27%
That's good, but we now know Trump didn't rely on the Detroit area Arabs to bail on Kamala to swing the election. That's a better thing.

I think populism itself is too broad for the overton window to neatly apply.

If anything both parties have to adopt varying populist ideals that fit within their party framework. I believe historically populism in the U.S. and Canada gets absorbed into party platforms rather than becoming distinct, sustainable movements. The Democrats also have to resist some non-populist policies which might be their bigger challenge.

I actually think Sanders had some feel for the limits of progressivism. I don't think he was initially in favor of a weak or open border. He however advocates Medicare For All and that sounds populist but doesn't currently have traction with the American public.

Disney would likely throw in some amusement park passes with ABC as well.
It was quite the sight watching CNN this morning. Gone was the smug attitude and it was like a funeral. Not sure if that was simply due to Trump winning, or the looming threat of Elon buying them.
They've changed their tune from "let's help manipulate the masses and prevent him from running", to "let's see if he lives up to his promises".
Like they should have been doing instead of joining the persecution campaign for the past 8 years.

In all fairness, I don't know if Bezos has been all that vocal about politics beyond owning a newspaper. This is actually a gracious and appropriate response from one of our greatest business leaders. Twenty years ago, this would have been considered normal. Maybe I am naive, but I like to think this is his signal to put down our swords.

Need I say more?
There will be 100% resistance to anything Trump does.
That's nice.
Republicans control the Senate and most likely the House.
The biased MSM outlets failed and have lost even more public trust so the usual tactics won't work.
Democrats spent all their time persecuting him rather than governing so they'll back off unless they want to lose the next election as well.

Only thing left is screaming liberals posting memes. And we all know the left can't meme.

Bring it on.

The tolerant left will continue to lose because they just dont get it.

Anyone who is oblivious to the declining state of this country is simply a lost cause.

Didnt they have the house and the senate in 2016 and still fail to repeal Obamacare?

I hope so too.
But part of me thinks that business leaders, especially smart ones, know who to cozy up with when the chips fall.

Obamacare will be tweaked one way or another. There aren't great political minds on either side that can contend with the complexity of healthcare, but they will soldier on.

Better question is will liberals in Canada continue to compare Poilievre to Trump (as they've been doing over the past few years), seeing the results south of the border?
They may need some new tactics.
a lot of pundits said this would be good for Trudeau but I don’t see it. Justin just lost his “PP is bad like Trump” card. They may have to run on their record now…
I always get the impression that many here fear Trump-style populism and conservatism influencing Canadians to reject their own progressive creep.
