I know some people who have worked in the mainstream media outlets and would tell me through the years how they would be told to bury a story or spin it a particular way. These decisions often came down from whoever was above and filtered down to editors and program directors. They just went with it for fear of being fired.
They were never told to outright lie because that could lead to libel/slander lawsuits. They were always told to verify stories before going to air or to make it clear that verification was pending.
So to some extent, mainstream outlets have more to lose if they lie and if their reputation gets tarnished then that leads to sponsors pulling away, etc.
A youtuber may have less to lose and most likely won't attract the same legal attention that a larger outlet would. But at the same time, they would be more free to express their opinions without fear of management reprisals.
Better question is will liberals in Canada continue to compare Poilievre to Trump (as they've been doing over the past few years), seeing the results south of the border?
They may need some new tactics.

Obama was big shoes to fill.
There was no one to fill those shoes especially against a populist like Trump.

The right candidate in 2016 would have been a radical one just like Trump was radical at that time. (Bernie imo).
But as you say the DNC does not learn.
They want their establishment candidates.
If they still haven't learned, they need to wake up and see that the overton window has shifted to populism.
That or Trump's 2nd term is a complete disaster that people start craving for a change.

I think populism itself is too broad for the overton window to neatly apply.
If anything both parties have to adopt varying populist ideals that fit within their party framework. I believe historically populism in the U.S. and Canada gets absorbed into party platforms rather than becoming distinct, sustainable movements. The Democrats also have to resist some non-populist policies which might be their bigger challenge.
I actually think Sanders had some feel for the limits of progressivism. I don't think he was initially in favor of a weak or open border. He however advocates Medicare For All and that sounds populist but doesn't currently have traction with the American public.

It was quite the sight watching CNN this morning. Gone was the smug attitude and it was like a funeral. Not sure if that was simply due to Trump winning, or the looming threat of Elon buying them.
They've changed their tune from "let's help manipulate the masses and prevent him from running", to "let's see if he lives up to his promises".
Like they should have been doing instead of joining the persecution campaign for the past 8 years.
In all fairness, I don't know if Bezos has been all that vocal about politics beyond owning a newspaper. This is actually a gracious and appropriate response from one of our greatest business leaders. Twenty years ago, this would have been considered normal. Maybe I am naive, but I like to think this is his signal to put down our swords.

The biased MSM outlets failed and have lost even more public trust so the usual tactics won't work.
Democrats spent all their time persecuting him rather than governing so they'll back off unless they want to lose the next election as well.
