Canadian soccer (There already is a Canadian Football - they go that extra 10 yards) isn't quite ready to replace hockey as the national sport, is it? Sorry, US mid terms have temporarily depleted supplies of butt hurt balm. Scrambling to meet the upcoming demand after the Georgia run off. No matter who wins, demand will be very strong...

They could've put someone better than Hutchinson in that last game....the first goal gave Croatia momentum and he was just there doing shit...
its the whole team, buchanan should've dropped back into the penalty area on the second croatian goal, he left the guy right open in the box to receive the ball and take that shot. in the end croatia was a much better team than ours, we just didn't realize it after a surprising result against belgium.

it will happen in toronto i think, a few reasons.
1. more immigrants who love soccer more than hockey
2. cheaper to play soccer than hockey (no equipment, can play almost anywhere etc.)
3. easier to participate in soccer than hockey (no need to learn how to skate)
4. torontonians are generally bandwagoners and "trendy" (cue blue jays in 2016 and raptors in 2019), so if TFC does well and soccer is popular elsewhere then torontonians will follow.

the only thing that can reverse the trend is leafs winning stanley's cup.

Now I know how Insidious feels. Denmark is out of WC.

They don't deserve the FIFA rating of tenth. They managed to score only one goal in 3 games, by the center back no less.

I think you and all of us should refrain from making this political between USA and Iran.
Yes. Talk on TERB reverberates through the political and athletic worlds.

It's hard to deny that Iran is an oppressive political regime and the U.S., even with all its' flaws, is a democracy. I can see why you'd like to not talk about that.

I got home just in time to watch a Tunisian fan give the forearm salute to the Frenchies after their goal was disallowed. Although under the van Nistelrooy Rule, Griezmann did score.

My focus is Poland vs Argentina. Let the Poles put the Smashmouth on the Albiceleste, The Cockroach deserves nothing. Let Portugal win the WC.

Is there a Polish translation? Forza Polonia!

Australia are the new underdogs for the neutrals to root for. Argentina will be trying extra hard to get on that side of the bracket.

Forcrissakes, we have a political discussion section for that.

All the players on the field, when Iran and USA played, showed good sportsmanship.

Denmark need more immigration to improve their team. Tunisia get a win against their colonial oppressor.
Slimane on the Tunesian team was born and grew up in Copenhagen.

I'm as shocked as you are. I had them winning the group and instead they finished dead last. In the run up they had beaten France twice. They choked.

Todays' 10 am games where a surprise alright. Denmark sucked against Australia, I though Denmark for sure was going to win. The Tunisians have a hard on for France , they were colonized by them so they fought really good and was surprised they won. Mbappe was sitting, but a team can't depend on one player alone.

Poland did make Argentina look like a potential winners of this World Cup. However, IMHO they should have learnt from the manner in which Saudi Arabia beat Argentina.
The Saudis pressed high up and did not allow Argentina to dwell on the ball. in contrast shockingly Poland sat back for most of the game and allowed Argentina to dictate the match.
Even when Poland went two down instead of injecting any energy it seems like they were in a damage control phase and should thank the Saudis for guaranteeing them a place in the knockout stages!!

USA vs Iran was gripping theatre until the final whistle. Magnified by the political undertones lol. Christian Pulisic will remain an American hero forever. He threw himself at the ball and cluttered into the keeper injuring his abdomen in the process. He did not return for the second half apparently having been taken to the hospital. Then the US demonstrated how to defend a goal, something Canada failed abysmally to do against Croatia. Wave after wave of Iranian attack was repelled valiantly by US rearguard until the end. Congratulations to the "Great Satan" Yankees. And goodbye to the team of the murderous Ayatollahs.
These are the same Iranian players who refused to sing their national anthem to support the women's protests in their home country.

They sound like pretty decent guys to me.
