Most of the players on African teams play professionally in Europe. The reason for not winning world cup is their technical teams are not up to snuff
And I would imagine: the money in Europe.is way better than in Africa

A hint of hubris on Herdman's part, he'll know better against Morocco.

Canada has a lot of talent but sparse in predatory instinct, only Fonzo showed it. Jonathan David has been disappointing. Makes me wish Rolling Thunder II was Canadian.

You had to find a way to inject Serie A into this. As usual...I am missing all the Italian flags fluttering on cars lol

It will always be about where the most athletically talented individuals choose to train those talents up to professional standards.

In Canada that's hockey, and to lesser degrees Basketball, Baseball, and Football. But especially hockey because there is a massive infrastructure starting at age two to develop the skill set.

So unless a very real eeffort is made to start it at that level, with financial incentives, we will alwsys be low tier.
This is one way we can get to the next tier level, and it takes a lot of practice to achieve it:

Soccer fans are idiots in all countries (except Canada of course)

Croatia charged for fan taunts of Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan at World Cup
FIFA cited rules relating to discrimination in the taunts of Borjan, who was born in an ethnic Serb region of Croatia, but moved to Canada when he was 13

DOHA, Qatar (AP-CP) — FIFA opened a disciplinary case against Croatia on Tuesday because of its fans’ taunts aimed at Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan, who has Serbian family ties, during the teams’ World Cup game.
FIFA said the charge against the Croatian soccer federation was “due to the behaviour of its fans” and cited rules relating to discrimination and security at games.

Borjan was born in an ethnic Serb region of Croatia that was part of the conflict that split the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

Borjan’s family left their hometown in 1995 when it was taken by Croatian forces amid stories that ethnic Serbs fled on tractors.

During Canada’s 4-1 loss Sunday, one banner displayed by Croatia fans used a flag of tractor manufacturer John Deere and changed the marketing slogan to target Borjan. The abuse was especially loud in the second half when Borjan’s goal was right in front of the Croatia fans.

Borjan was 13 when his family moved to Canada — initially Winnipeg and then Hamilton a year later. He plays his club football for storied Serbian club Red Star Belgrade.

The 35-year-old has won 71 caps for Canada.

FIFA gave no timetable for a verdict in the case which would typically be judged with a fine for the federation.

In the first disciplinary verdict of the World Cup on Tuesday, FIFA imposed a 10,000 Swiss francs ($10,500) fine on the German soccer federation for not bringing players to the news conference that is mandatory one day before a

Am I the only one that find that the celebrations by the players after a goal has gone a bit too far.

Maybe there should be a limit of 30 seconds for celebrations.

Netherlands win Group A with 2-0 victory over host Qatar, who suffered ignominious feat of being the first host to lose all their 3 group matches. Serves them right lol. Cody Gapko scored again to become the first Dutch player to score in 3 consecutive WC matches. His father was born in Togo (West Africa). Mom is a blond Dutch.

Senegal defeated Ecuador 2-1 to qualify second from Group A.

USA vs Iran was gripping theatre until the final whistle. Magnified by the political undertones lol. Christian Pulisic will remain an American hero forever. He threw himself at the ball and cluttered into the keeper injuring his abdomen in the process. He did not return for the second half apparently having been taken to the hospital. Then the US demonstrated how to defend a goal, something Canada failed abysmally to do against Croatia. Wave after wave of Iranian attack was repelled valiantly by US rearguard until the end. Congratulations to the "Great Satan" Yankees. And goodbye to the team of the murderous Ayatollahs.

I think you and all of us should refrain from making this political between USA and Iran.

There is enough animosity between these two nations, I think we should rather celebrate that football teams from these two nations can compete in a respectful and friendly way.

Look for rioting in Iran now, and some sort of acting out when the US isn't kicked out of he competition. Action in the Strait of Hormuz, sending organized units to fight with Russia in Ukraine, who knows?...

Iran's best forward Voria Ghafouri was not in Qatar. He was arrested for taking part in the protests against the mullahs. He is a Kurd, just like Mahsa Amini who was beaten to death in prison.

On a brighter note, I was surprised to see Sergino Dest play for the USA, I figured he'd play for his native Holland. He's playing in place of the injured David Calabria at Ac Milan. He set up the decider, Pulisic sacrificed himself to score it. He ended up with torn groin muscles in the process, not sure why Berkhalter left him out there for the remainder of the half.

...I hate FIFA.
