Hockey may not be the primary sport in urban Canada anymore.The sport is too expensive and the developmental system has become extortionate. Only privileged kids get to go through the system. There hasn't been an impactful black player since Jerome Iginla. By contrast the cost of developing Canadian football players is almost minimal. The former Woodbridge Academy now known as the Ontario Soccer Center, has produced it's share of talented football players. Foremost among them is Ashley Lawrence.

With Canada eliminated, I'll probably lose interest in Qatar - no minnows to cheer for. Unless, of course Lindsey Hamilton and Janine Beckie are doing the commentary.

Baseball? Hockey? And not everyone is a line backer. Look at the receivers as an example of top athletes not in soccer.

Follow the money, the culture.

Baseball's a totally different skill set and is becoming dominated by Latino players. And hockey isn't popular outside the northern tier of states.

My theory for why football will never be the primary sport in USA is that the play cannot be stopped for advertising like American football and Hockey.

That's easily fixed with commercial time outs. Or banner ads at the bottom of the screen during play.

Looking at the Canada team, it must be hard to be against immigration.

True but it's still Canada that developed many of them.

Why are African countries not winning world cup while seeing many African born player on all European team... Because they are developed in Europe...

Watch the interviews with a few of the Canadian players, they were humbled, and lessons learned from the Croatia game, they know they are a long way to being world-class like Croatia. So it's back to the drawing board and focus on getting the first win vs Morroco.

Canada has a lot of talent but sparse in predatory instinct, only Fonzo showed it. Jonathan David has been disappointing. Makes me wish Rolling Thunder II was Canadian.

Most of the players on African teams play professionally in Europe. The reason for not winning world cup is their technical teams are not up to snuff
