These are the same Iranian players who refused to sing their national anthem to support the women's protests in their home country.

They sound like pretty decent guys to me.
I have nothing against Iranian players. It's the murderous government they represent that I am vehemently against. If they had beaten the US, agents of the government would have organized celebrations with "Great Satan" signs (n)

So, think positive, and celebrate that two teams can play sports in a friendly and sportsmanlike fashion, even if their respective governments hate each other.
Is that not a fundamental feature of sport, that it can bring people together across all political stripes and races. I watched the game and did not see any hate between the players.

After tomorrow's match against Morocco is over, my interest in this WC will be over. On to more important matters.

This op has an English perspective but he's not wrong in his assessment. Andrea Agnelli not a great business, he's not his father Umberto' s son in that regard.

Ditto. I sympathize with the players, they're torn between their love for country/football and their hatred of that despicable regime.

Argentina 2 Poland 0. The real Argentina showed up in this match. Totally dominant with blistering pace and interchanges left Poland chasing shadows throughout . Messi missed a penalty early on. No problem. Watch out, world. Will be tough to beat playing like that.

Morroco 2-0. Canada just doesn't have their hearts and mind in it. It's been a fun ride. No one thought Canada would make it to Qatar. See you in 2026.

I don't think with Canada it's hearts and minds. They're boys playing against men. It's like watching Germany play Canada in hockey. They're miss the nuance of generations who've played it. We need another generation of soccer players to really be "in the game". Right now they rush passes. They all want the highlight reel goal (look at most of Messi's goals... simple taps into the net any way he can!) There's no midfield support. There's no "shape" to their play. As someone above just mentioned Argentina... man did they have it together. Tight midfield. Never gave up the ball. In complete control. That's the part of the game Canada needs to master.

Morocco deserved to win but it felt like we scored 2 own goals, it was painful to watch at times,
the first goal was a howler, and a goalie should not be easily beaten at his near post.

Such is not always the case. Hungary vs. USSR, 1956 Olympics.

Japan defeats Spain 2-1 in the same stadium where they overcame Germany 2-1. And in similar fashion. Down 1-0 at halftime and rising to score two goals in the second half. The rising sun has never shone brighter, as the commentator said. So Japan topped Group F with 6 points. Spain second by virtue of their 7-0 demolition of Costa Rica. And Germany, for the second consecutive WC, does not emerge out of group play despite winning 4-2 against Costa Rica. That's why this game is so amazing because not even the Japanese predicted topping the group. And the fans. Ecstasy for Japanese fans and wailing for German fans.

Holy !! I thought these 2 afternoon games were going to be boring , but they were very exciting. The Japanese managed to score a couple that sent Germany out, even if they scored 4 goals. Spain was lucky they scored all those goals against Costa Rica they were able to stay in. Germany's Harvertz as usual couldn't crack a smile even when he scores a few.

Japan call was correct. Ball has to go completely over the line, which it didnt
(its fricking close though)

I thought it was a bad VAR call, because I didn't see the shot from the top. I'm sure they zoomed on it and it was still touching the line. Lucky buggers.
Belgium was also booted out, Lukaku cried and punched shit around. He did miss a couple.

The key to beating Japan is to let them score first.

World Cup has gotten exciting every day. I love watching the matches when they are less of being predictable.
