Right, a 16 year old kid going to work driving a Mercedes?? Family must have been really poor. Give me a break. Also many 16 year olds do you know that drive a Mercedes. What a joke
Dunno what world you live in but I had 2 underage teen girls as admins up in Vaughan

Both drove Mercedes (one had C other had B class)
Paid minimum wage, answer phones, file papers

A teen boy at same office drove a Cadillac SUV

If you bother to look entire blocks up there have the 60 foot lots as the small homes
And these are recent cars, not clunkers (the girl who got the B class from parents was a brand new car)

X I bet you were not driving a Mercedes.
My 1st car was a POS Chrysler I don't even remember model (*edit I know it was not a Neon, it was a family sized car)
But my parents usually got a new car every 3 to 5 years so it was not old

I dumped it first chance I got to get a Ford SUV

[/QUOTE. Tee jay, I am pushing 80 years old, in my young Teenage days any of us that were lucky enough to drive a car, never had the opportunity to drive high end cars. Parents in those days were not stupid enough to allow it. I understand things have changed over the years mainly because young people these days feel so entitled, that they demand that they can do anything they want and TELL their parents that what they want is what they should get. You may have polite and obedient kids but you are in the minority.

fucking zero evidence to support that theory. A salary doesn't dictate whether a person is a decent human being or not. Give your fucking head a shake
Also there are a number of european countries that require cops to have university degrees and you know what? they kill less civiluans than in the USA.

It's a fact that when you pay better you get more applicants. More applicants means better chances of findinf high quality candidates.

In your fantasy you want people to take an extra 10k gross per year above the average joe and take on the stress and risk of being a cop?!?¿?

Where the evidence?? Police performance goes down when they lose arbitration cases....okay...

Article mentions nothing about getting hired on at a lower pay rate means you going to be a "rogue" cop.

Median salary for univeristy educated person in ontario 87k

Median salary of ontarian 50k

You want cops to earn 60k

Im sure the best and brightest university educated will take a 27k pay cut and incrrase in danger and stress

Most Police Officers these days have at least a College (Police Foundations) if not a University degree. The days of the Grade 12 grad going straight into Policing are long gone.

doubt it. Majority still get hired with a grade 12. You go through a series of test. Either you do well on them or you don't.

"About one third (30.2 percent) of police officers in the United States have a four-year college degree. A little more than half (51.8 percent) have a two-year degree, while 5.4 percent have a graduate degree"

this is what i found online

but then i found this.....

"Nationwide, the percentage of college-educated officers is similar to the general population, about 30%.Mar. 26, 2021"

this is interesting....

"Take note of this fact: according to a 2003 Bureau of Justice Statistics study, 83% of all U.S. police departments require a high school diploma, but only 8% require a 4-year college degree. But another study, by 2010 Police Quarterly, revealed that officers with some college education are less likely to resort to force (56% of the time) than those who have never attended college (68% of the time)"

that same article also mentions that age/maturity of a college educated person vs a high school graduate are different.

Heres how canada stacks up....

"The 2014 Police Administration Survey can provide information on educational attainment at the national, provincial and territorial levels.Note 21 Across Canada, information on the highest level of education completed at the time of hiring was available for 37,654 officers (55% of all officers) as of the snapshot date. Information was more often available for recruit graduates (62%) than for experienced police officers (55%).

Of those police officers for whom information was available, about half (51%) had completed a college, CEGEP or other certificate or diploma at the time they were hired. Those with a university undergraduate degree at the time they were hired accounted for an additional 29%, and those with a high school diploma for 19%. A small proportion (1.6%) had university graduate degrees including master’s degrees and doctorates at the time they were hired. The remainder had other levels of education at time of hire.

A larger proportion of experienced police officers reported high school diploma as their highest level of education (19% versus 12% for recruit graduates) while recruit graduates more frequently reported college, CEGEP or other certificate or diploma (60% versus 50% for experienced police officers).'

Grade 12 is the basic requirement. They have to set a minimum education level which was standard a generation ago. I have 2 nephews and godson in LE One is RCMP All have at least a College Degree (Police Foundations) The RCMP process took 2 years from start to finish and he has 2 Univ. Degrees. You dont see any 21 years coming on the job unless your Dept. has the old Cadet system. They want people with work, life experiences BEFORE applying The average rookie Police Officer is over 25 now. My nephews,Godson were late 20's early 30's when hired.

They absolutely do not give a shit of you police foundations.

Nor do they really care if you have a BA or whatever. There is a series test, either you do well or you don't.
