About 60k a year. Very adequate salary. Especially since my tax dollars goes to waste on bull shit like rouge cops getting suspended with pay for sometimes years. while most jobs no chance that's happens. I would much rather have more cops making less, then fewer cops making 80k or more off our tax dollars. Any other questions???
I think thats a recipe for getting more rogue cops

Holy smokes!

There are a whole slew of idiotic hot-takes in this 2 page thread.

Nottyboi is definitely #1 moron at the moment, though.

Yeah, because this thought process works very well in America. Lets under fund one of the most dsngerous jobs in a city which is becoming more and more violent as the years progress. Then we will mainly get shitty applicants who are more prone to corruption, and abuse of power... what could possibly go wrong.

In your ''opinion'' Police Officers are overpaid. ok What would you PAY them?? Remembering the days of the guy with just a Gr. 12 diploma are over. Many have College and yes University Degrees. The amount of violence, rampant gun play in the GTHA is increasing every day.
The problem these days is that there is a total lack of enforcement on the road these days. Had a vehicle pass me by going into the oncoming traffic lane on a side road while I was going 10ks past the limit.

A terrible tragedy without sense, solution or even retribution. How do you punish a 16 years old kid who made a mistake? It's one of those situations where, if you are close to the event, you shed your tears and try to reach another day.

A 16 yr old child’s brain is not fully developed. Why do we still let them have a 3,000lb weapon?

I agree with what your saying, but a person's brain is fully developed until their mid to late 20's. How long do you wait before you can let people drive?

Avg human brain is not fully developed until your 25th birthday
So assuming we keep graduated licensing 18 months after that equals 26.5 years old for a new driver?

You seriously want *that*???

there's a lot of bs in this thread. Here is what is actually going to happen:

1. driver has already been charged with dangerous driving causing death x2, crim neg etc.
2. If he is convicted of any of these which is quite likely, his (parents) insurance company will pay out the victims/family but then can turn around and sue the driver AND/OR the owner of the car = parent. This is because we cannot get insurance for criminal acts, only for carelessness under HTA which is not the charge.

So the parents are indeed properly fucked.
They won't
In cases like this they usually throw book at him and he pleads down with Crown

There is a 0% chance he will be convicted of everything they charged him with

Also 0% chance it will effect parents
Kid will (probably) lose license (demerit points) and come off insurance policy
Only effect is they may decline to insure him later on (or it costs more)

The Parental Responsibility Act does allow them to sue parents of the driver however since a minor can not be sued for something like this
It is up to parents to prove they acted responsible (which I think they will; kid is young so prob enrolled in drivers ed etc)

Yes

What point in getting a license if not driving
For all you know he was essential and on his way to work
Right, a 16 year old kid going to work driving a Mercedes?? Family must have been really poor. Give me a break. Also many 16 year olds do you know that drive a Mercedes. What a joke
