After a rough first inning, Stroman was very good......and we can debate whether the long lay off hurt him too (I take the position that Gibbons was wrong not to give him some innings on Saturday). Carapazza the umpire was terrible....and very scary that next game we get Alfonso Marquez (remember the Buerhle last start)...and the game after that we get Never Starvin Marvin Hudson....3 bad umpires in a row.

Was a great game today if you didnt care about who wins.......but real playoff baseball...and credit to the Texas no name bullpen...shut us out for 7 innings

If Estrada can win sunday, then start Price again in game 4, hope he shows up this time and then pitch Stroman game 5 FTW.

I know its a long shot but some teams have come back from 0-2

Because they finished on top of the AL... The Jays COULD have, but Gibbons decided to take the next 4 games off...

He totally mismanaged this last 8-9 days. Instead of taking the week off, he could have primed his starters, won the AL, kept momentum and it would have been a totally different ALDS...

ANY manager of ANY business knows... when you are riding a wave... MILK IT! Rest in the off season.

But... He chose not to, and he took the next 4 games "off"...

Where are these guys???

Baseball isn't "any business". The season is long, and players play through injuries all year. If the opportunity presents itself, and you ask your veteran players if they'd like a break, and they say 'yes', you give it to them. The Royals 'played hard' right down to the wire, yet they lost their first playoff game - Care to explain that one? The hindsight that is pervasive in this thread is laughable.

It doesn't always work that way.

St. Loo had the best record in the NL but now they are playing the stronger team in the Cubs.

Oh and by resting his best players for a couple of games here and there over the last half-dozen, Gibby lost the all important, precious home field advantage.... :crazy:

So far, the home team has won 1 game and lost 4 in the AL playoffs!

All this talk of "rest" makes me sick. The Jays could have played hard, maybe take the day after they clinched the division off (maybe), and then rest their starters the last day of the season. Add the 3 days off anyways and that's 4 days of rest, which is by FAR enough rest in a season where the normal rest is 1 day. It also keeps the players sharp, versus the Jays now who LOOK like they've been resting for the past week.

Momentum is everything in baseball and the Jays have lost it. But they didn't lose it in the playoffs, they lost it a week ago when they took their eye off the prize and started celebrating early.

For a team that has prided itself all season on "taking care of business," their business has gone bankrupt.

Time to move on. They have to win game 3 on Sunday. Even if the Jays tied the series 1-1 yesterday and go on to lose the game tomorrow. The record still shows 2-1 Rangers. So, let make sure we will have that record by end of Sunday. Then, we decide who should be starting in gm 4.
I think Gibbon will NOT change his starters lineup. Gibby and his coaching staff need to regroup and think of ways to win a one run games for god's sake! Still, I bothered about the fact the dome was closed yesterday. The ball that EE hit in the bottom of 13th could have gone out if the dome was open? I listened to Cherry complaint on MLB controls of the dome earlier in the week. He could be right.

Every one makes mistakes, but those that Gibbons has made have been very amateurish for a manager.

I have said enough over this and last season about his lack of managerial talent and ability so no more needs be said.

As for the BJ's players themselves, they have had plenty of chances to win both games but just could not execute and come through. On the one hand, "that's baseball"; on the other hand, a manager who understands all those things that do not happen between the lines would have put them in better position to succeed.

It ain't over 'till it's over and anything is possible... but I live in the world of what is probable. :Cry:

The one thing that really stands out in my mind over the past few weeks is just how awful the umpiring is in MLB, especially behind the plate. I notice that Fox is very reluctant to show the electronic tracking of pitches - probably at the request of MLB! But I love the ESPN rectangle over the plate that really shows just how bad it is.

Soccer finally moved to electronic goal line technology. I think the MLB will soon have to do the same over strikes and balls because the integrity of the game suffers from poor officiating.

Been wondering myself if a lazer grid or something similar would produce error-proof and more consistent results.

I can tolerate bad umpiring on both teams but it seems the bad umpiring is targeted at just the Jays. The "Bettman Factor"?

Anything is better than the crap calling balls and strikes right now. Maybe a robot with laser eyes?

Watching the games our pitchers were getting some of those calls as well.

I would add some of those pitches were damn good and too close for an easy call. Especially with good pitch framing.

I didn't see any bias on the part of the umpires. Just some bad calls.
