First, it is easy to argue that racism is a part of this, because, well, the HUGE explosion in white supremacy that vocally supports the right, MAGA, the GOP and Trump. They might have always been there (well, at least since the GOP and Dems switched positions in the support of civil rights in the 50s, when so-called "dixie-crats" in the south joined the GOP in huge numbers...). Remember, the Party of Lincoln fought and fought hard against segregation and the repeal of Jim Crow laws and the signing of the Civil Rights act.
As for the religious aspect, how many prominent right-wingers are evangelical Christians, and how many are calling the US a Christian nation. How many are trying to push their religious morals in the laws and repeal civil rights? Abortion and gay marriage are under fire, and it comes from these people. So....when you have leadership and a vocal minority that wants to turn the country into a fundamentalist Christian nation....that's probably a cause for concern.
Clinton should have been impeached. But, let's also call a spade a spade, that investigation should never have happened in the first place. Starr, a GOP insider, went well beyond his mandate to put the screws to Clinton.
Finally, Obama inherited a war from GWB. Wars like that are easy to get into, much harder to pull out of. AND.....do you recall the GOP calling on him to "bring the troops home?" I don't, because they didn't. And while Trump might have pulled the plug, he fucked Biden because his negotiations with the Taliban imposed really tight deadlines for the US to pull out. Which led to that chaos.
