Why don't you just call Canadians rascists too?

There are rascists everywhere...I hope you're somehow not implying that English fans and players are not rascist....that American fans/players are not rascist....South American, German etc etc....NEWS FLASH ....its everywhere!
I have to pipe in on this.... Saying that Italians are racist everywhere is ludicrous...... but to minimize some of the shenanigans in Serie A is also silly..

Some of the things that have happened in Serie A stadiums have been very very shameful and downright shocking... The last thing that I remember seeing was some player whipping carrying a swastika off the field.. to the cheer of the crowd..... etc...

Sure, but what was Figo's penalty for head butting?!? Nothing!
While I agree that Figo's action deserved a straight red card, I should point out that he did at least get a yellow. As well, in terms of severity, Figo's action was not comparable to what Zidane did.

I just read this on another site:

"They've just had something about this on the BBC 10 O'Clock News. Apparently, he called Zidane a "liar" then said "I hope your family dies a horrible death", referring to his mother being ill, then he said "Go fuck yourself". Zidane then does his deed. This was from an Italian lip-reader".

I don' care what was said to Zidane. There is no cause to assault someone, especially the team leader. I'm not surprised since he's been booted from games before.
I find it ironic that an anti-racism group in France is calling for the Italian player to be punished but are not upset about Zidane's assault. Perhaps the german police should have laid assault charges.
You can go to any country and see fans make racist comments. Even happens in such a great and diverse country like Canada. Just go to a hockey game. Watch Charles Barkley on tv make comments about whites in Oklahoma.
There will always be racism in this world. It's not right nor fair; just a fact.
I'm amazed by the comments that Zidane should get away with headbutting someone because they made a comment about his mom or background. Why don't we have a book published that states what can and can't be said to other people. For example, right now there are words that only select races can say without getting in trouble. Why is that?
As for the assaulted Italian player being no good, just look at his history. He's played in one of the top leagues in the world as well as playing for his country and winning the World Cup.

but he's a grown man.......or at least he should be at his age.

Zidane is a moron. They should not make him the tournaments top player...it should be stripped from him for being an idiot.
Ignorant idiot of the year should go to, Materazzi, for not knowing what "terrorist" means. Hey, he called himself ignorant, I'll go with it.
Fucking tool.

I found it extremely heartening that President Chirac did not take the politically correct path, but instead lauded Zidane for his heart and courage.

If zidane had wanted to hurt the italian scumbag, he would have kicked him in the nuts instead of head butted him in the chest. Then he would have had a reason to fall to the ground.

Then again, if Zidane had hit Materazzi hard enough in the chest, he would have killed him by inducing cardiac arrest.

Whatever Materazzi said or did not say, Zidane was definitely NOT a sportsman, as it bothered him so much that he let his team down by commiting such a stupid action as he did. Things like that should have been settled after the game and outside of the stadium.

I was simply making the point that Zidane was not trying to hurt Materazzi. If he had wanted to hurt him, he would have head butted him in the head, kicked him or sucker punched him.

Materazzi stopped many hard balls with his chest.

Zidane is a professional and should not have stooped to the level of the other guy. Retire with your head up and some class.

Now, I cant say for sure because none of us were actually there and I dont want to get into the race game, but I dont doubt for a second what that Italian player said and hes lucky thats all he got.

Sure there are Racists everywhere... but in Europe its on a whole different level....You're living here in nice and diverse Canada where things are pretty much washed over....

Its no comparison to many countries in Europe....Dumping on Blacks, Jews and anything that isnt white is just as common as taking a shit

Italy is a pretty harsh place if you are not white.

Just watching the Serie A erks me when i see Di Canio doing the Hitler salute. Lots of nazi flags as well. Materazzi himself is a dirty player, there have been stories on him for harsh tackles, cheap shots. So anyone thinking Zidane is a cheapo should really learn more about Materazzi.

Right now its Zidanes word against Materazzi's anything goes. This is no longer about the World Cup its a political/cultural agenda that should be straighten out.

According to the Daily Show's version of events, Materazzi was trying to tell Zidane that he was choking on a spicy meatball and when Zidane finally figured it out, rather than give him the Hiemlich maneuver it was a lot easy to head butt him in the chest in the hopes of dislodging the meatball.
