again it seems Kathleen and others fail to realise the difference between a racist society and the tolerance of racism in football. Italy and Spain tolerate it by their non actions. England has quite a few racists but England doesnt tolerate racists in their football. Italy, like every single nation on this planet, is full of nice people so thats not the issue. Their football federation on the other hand seems odd to say the least

You think Aragones would keep his jon in England?? No, but he did in Spain. Do you think what happens in Italy at their stadia will be tolerated in England? Not in this day and age. It seems Italy and Spain could care less.
I hate to agree with Franky on this , much as it pains me, I have to agree...
If we had hockey players goose stepping around our arena, or people making monkey noises in our football stadiums, you can bet there would be some major ramifications from either the league or our government..

Kathleen, I have read a number of your posts on the issue of racism...... you are either very naive in this area or......Can I ask you if you accept non-caucasian clients???

The fact that the Italian Football Federation has not stepped in to put a stop to it is an incredibly bad message to it's fans... apparently, the guy who gives the fascist salute will stop in the interest of his team, but insists that his actions are simply " a tribute to his idol mussolini" but not the mussolini who would put jews in concentration camps...

To be honest, I would find the monkey noises funny... but when 50,000 - 60,000 Italians are doing it, and they look like they are ready to tar and feather you... it might not be so funny....

I have to agree with the posts on tokens players. I didn't see too many Italians on the team from Ghana. Also didn't see too many Jews on the Iranian team. why are we keeping track of ethnic background? What good is it? What does it prove?
I also don't think that Kat is being naive. She like a lot of white people is tired of people only mentioning people of colour as victims of racism.
Who cares if Matty called ZZ a son of a whore or a son of a terrorist?
Spain and Italy had fascists gov't's for years and that is why those countries do not take racial events as serious as other countries. We can't force our values onto other countries anymore than we want their values forced on us. Perhaps something would be done if players refused to play in those countries.
It's a good thing that sports is supposed to bring people closer.

Excellent point xdog (and Kathleen), did you guys know every time I went to Thailand they had 2 pricelists, one was for Thai people and the other was for white folks. Guess which one was higher and guess what would happen if we tried that stunt in Canada???!!!!

Also, when I was in Jakarta Indonesia, you had better not get into a car accident cause if you do, any white person (or non-indonesian) will automatically be found guilty on the spot (whether you are or not).
And heaven forbid if you kill someone in the accident, cause you may be locked up for life.

You didn't say It, I did. Because I get sick of racism and hate always being around or directed at white. When someone not white is racist, media calls is 'reverse' racism. It's BS. Hate is Hate.
Since when was that ever the case.. .I never got that impression at all nor was I conveying that. Why are you so overly defensive?

Kathleen said:
So, that tells me anyone not white is a victim. Again, how did Jews fall into this with you, and since when are they not white?
Your very statement suggests whites will be the instruments to hate.
huh??? lol.. ok my point went waaay over your head

Racial slur or not, Zidane made the silliest mistake. He should have kept his cool instead of head butting Materazzi, falling into his dirty trap. Zidane has taken his team this far. This is his last match before he retired. He could have retired by winning the World Cup, but by just making a silly and selfish mistake cost his team the Cup. Had France won the World Cup, I am sure it would have hurt Materazzi a whole lot more than the head butt!

No not one on the Italian squad...

Funny enough, I did not see any visible minorities on the Italian team... There must be some people of color playing football in Italy???
They do have the GOLDEN BALL THOUGH....and its their 4th one.

Plenty of "people of colour" on Guana: how many championships do they have???

what a dumb conversation.

You guys are all RACIST BIGGOTS.

Its easy to say oh he's racist or not because everyone needs to look at themselves and realize we are all capable of racism.

And its true society always thinks that the Caucasian race is the primary target of hate crimes. Totally uncalled for. I am Chinese and I believe Caucasians are just scapegoats on the word racism because of history. History has changed, times have changed, society have changed so i think its right to just stop the whole bashing of Caucasians.

Well, I've got to say that was one beautifully timed and executed head but. Matty boy went down like the sack of %$# he is. Nice to see an Italian player go down for once and not be taking an outrageous swan dive. Sure, I know Zidane should have kept his cool. But it's nce to see a racist scumbag get what he deserves, if only a small portion.

And this crap about Zidane costing them the game - face it, the Italians didn't miss a single penalty kick. You will win a good damn many shootouts with a performance like that, Zidane or no.

also add the fact that the player who missed the penalty reaplaced THIERRY HENRY. So perhaps Domenach should of known better than to take your 2nd best penalty taker off the field.

I applaud Matterazzi for getting under the bald guy's skin!!!...good way to get the dirty scum bags red carded!!!
A classy comment, made by someone who admires Materazzi "bald guy's". Misery loves company.
That bald guy, has more skill in his right foot, than Materazzi has in his entire body. ;-)
Wonder (and hope) this will bite you in the ass and you start to show some recession in your hair, if it hasn't already. :p

My apologies for reading into matters too deep. I just get defensive when racism in sports talks heat up, and the finger seems to always point the same way.
It bothers me, that someone like Brian Gumble can slam winter Olympics as being 'too white', but that slides.
Brian Gumble Rant
Either way, didn't mean to get too defensive.
Hit the nail on the head, Kat!!

But baby, better not get into these things too deeply. ;)

I don't think that Zidane would react so violently to being called an Algerian..
however something like "the son of a terrorist whore" might get your blood boiling....
...once I read more about what was (allegeadly) said I can see what got him out of sorts.

He SHOULD NOT have reacted as he did, but I can see WHY he did...

Yes, the fascist salute. I think this is a case of Italy having nothing but pride in their history be it Mussolini or otherwise. Then again, perhaps its for shock value.

Say WHAT? I'm sure the burning cross in your backyard is your idea of a barbeque.

Lemme guess - a lot more bitter whining about the poor oppressed white people of North America?

I'll pass.

Kinda hot-looking for a redneck Klan chick though. :)
