They say he "could" be the next DN. Similarities would be height (7 ft) and ability to shoot from the outside. Don't know if AB can put it on the floor.

I think people just wanted a quick easy way to describe AB.

You watch a lot of NBA?

Tony Parker cannot shoot with a man on him. His set up shot needs a lot of time and room to get it off effectively.

Yes i watch a lot of the NBA, because i cap the games to make money off. If Tim Duncan is DT, he has either Ginobili, Bowen or Finley. If you are double teamed it means the lane is open. Maybe you need to figure out basketball tactics before asking if we watch the games or not.

Next time you watch Parker play, count how many SHOTS he actually attempts and how many LAY UPS he attempts.
Really?

Then you would think, Mr. "Basketball Tactics" - you would know that we aren't debating whether or not Parker can hit a shot with a man on him (you say he cannot, I would say with his quickness he is able to create spacing and get his shot...but whatever)

Pay attention...what we are talking about here are point guards who can HIT AN OPEN SHOT IN ORDER TO DISCOURAGE SAGGING DEFENSES AND DOUBLE TEAMS. Or did you read the part about "teams playing off of him, guarding the passing lanes, etc."

THIS is the skill that I am maintaining that Mr. Ford does not have - and when you somehow decided Tony Parker couldn't shoot and thus TJ Ford was going to be just fine - I reminded you that Tony Parker benfited from getting TONS of open looks...and that the reason he was able to raise his game this year to the tune of 19ppg @ 55% (despite taking only 36 3 pointers and making only 11) is because he has now mastered hitting those open 15 - 20 footers that are created when Duncan is double teamed.

"If you are double teamed it means the lane is open."

For the love of gawd, I beleive this is the stupidest thing I have ever read on this site in the sports section. So if there are two 7 foot guys and a 6' 5" standing in the lane...its open??

Let explain again...

If a PG cannot shoot, defenses will sag off of him and leave him open.

This will both A) take away the passing lanes, and B) inhibit his being able to drive to the basket.

The result of both of these outcomes is that your post players will be consistently double teamed - as defenses will have no reason to respect the ball handlers outside shot.

Really guys - you don't have to be Larry Brown to understand this stuff. It is basketball.

After you digest that I will then explain how many zones the Raptors will see with TJ Ford at the point...but assure me first that the lecture won't go over your heads...

AB is supposed to have a decent handle for a big guy and does go to the basket. he has some ability back to the basket as well (which we never saw from CV). I hope with the new up-tempo raps, he will continue to work on this, maybe playing lots of 1-on-1 with Bosh. I hope he doen't end up like Mo Pete. Great slasher and on the break in college but years of watching Vince dribble around got too used to sitting around in the corner.

I'm pretty sure that with some good hard work, Andrea will become a pretty good player.

not goign to bother responding to you because its obviously you must be the guru on this board.
How did Parker do in his 2nd year of the NBA? You are already bashing Ford so much based on one bloody season. Time will tell how he progresses, who knows he may very well improve his jump shot.

At first I went with the first Non-US # 1... then I remembered that Bogut fit that bill.... I had wondered why they kept saying the first European #1..... How the hell can I forget a 7' 6" chinese guy????

Hey Yao was the first Non American to be drafted first overall we all got that
right but he was the first Asian player to be drafted also but along comes
Bargnani who became the first European to be drafted first overall ... So the
NBA has seen the first overall pick come from the continents North America,
Asia, and now Europe ... Okay keep your eye out for South America to be
next ( Briazil and Argentina )
You forgot Australia.... Bogut is Australian

Raps need a SF, the second score on the team can be Mo Pete but he plays SG if i'm not mistaking.

So who will be at the 3. Joey Graham? Is he ready, he showed some flashes of brillance and most experts agreed that Joey is a better player than Charlie V.

Mike James should be signed - traded to the Rockets for a second round pick.

Well...to answer your question...

Parker

FG% .464
3P % .337
FT% .755
AST 5.3
PPG 15.5

Which to me reads like a glimpse of his All Star future.

BTW - TJ Ford just completed his second year...

Ford

FG% .416
3P% .337
FT% .754
AST 6.6
PPG 12.2

...and I would say the two are not even close.

Now yes, TJ Ford might work on his shot and improve. But my guess is that since he could not shoot in college...and since the Bucks have pretty much given up on him getting better, an improved jump shot is not in his future.

Bogut went to a US college. Yao Ming is the only 1st overall pick before Bargnai who was not born in the USA and didn't attend a US College. Tim Duncan wasn't born in the USA either, (Virgin Islands). That's splitting hairs, though, as it's the US Virgin Islands territory, but they still count him when they do the graphic on all of the International players on the Spurs.

Nowitzki is a freak of nature.... And his shooting stoke is so sweet sometimes that I get all tingly inside.... If Bargnani develops to even 75% of Nowitzki, then we did well to draft him #1.
If Bergnani listens to the Italian Hasselhoff he may develop into a 100% Nowitzki.

I won't get too excited...

but AB posted 20 points on 7/11 shooting and 2 blocked shots in his first game...he was also 4/4 from the strip and 2/5 from 3 point range.

other noteable: only 4 rebounds.......all defensive..no offensive boards.

These are all just numbers.........didn't get to see the game, so can't say much.

Too bad for Pape Sow. Really like the guy and thought he would have helped out the team this year. He was the dark horse noone was talking about.....bad luck would have it after a summer injury put him out last year too.

Get well buddy.

Not bad for a skinny guy from the other side of the pond.... Looks like he has some balls... I will glady eat humble pie, but I still would rather that they drafted Aldridge....

Hakeem Olajuwan was born in Nigeria, and Patrick Ewing was born in Jamaica, so Tim Duncan was the 3rd foreign born #1 overall pick, but all of them played US College ball except Yao Ming and Bargnani

bobistheowl is one of my old passwords. BOB was the villain on Twin Peaks. Sometimes he was an owl.

Thanks... I remember that they played for Houston and were part of "Phi Slamma Jamma"... but was Hakeem the #1 overall draft choice??

If not, who was the #1 that year..

Never mind... found my answer.... Hakeem was #1 followed by Bowie and a guy named Michael
Sam Perkins and BARKley... So you have three hall of famers sandwiching two a pair of sams..
