If Shanahan went truculent, Uncle Lou would quit.

However Rogers may feel the need to meddle. .
Rogers doesn't determine hockey decisions at MLSE.

MLSE is owned by Rogers (37.5%) Bell (37.5%) & Larry Tanenbaum (25%) .

However Rogers may feel the need to meddle. They've taken a bath on their hockey contract and the ratings for the WC are not would they could have been. I sincerely hope that isn't the case, it's happened too many times in the past. Here's one of the worst examples: Pat Quinn wanted to sign Adam Foote in 2002-03. But The Board nixed the deal because he was too expensive. So they traded away prospects to the San Jose Sharks for Owen Nolan.

I don't blame Quinn, like Cliff Fletcher before him, he made that deal under duress. I'm praying that Rogers will stay the course - I'm getting too old to be a Leafs fan.
The Quinn and Fletcher days were before the cap era. The Leafs are already near cap (over if They lose the Cowan arbitration) so current ownership has no need to meddle with the hockey decisions.

Should the Maple Leafs lose the Cowan arbitration, they will go over the cap, then immediately return to their present level, with Cowan's contract placed on L.T.I.R.

If only the Leafs can protect a lead in the 3rd period. 4 or 5 goals should be enough to win most games.

Bring back Vesa Toskala.

We already know Larry Tanenbaum is an idiot, he hired the legendary Richard Peddie and MLSE just took a bath on the Argos. On the flipside, Forbes assessed Toronto FC's at $245 million. I'm skeptical, but it's still a major windfall for Tanenbaum, they only paid $ 10 million for the franchise. A reviled franchise forced to share it's home field with the money pit Argos.

$245 million for Toronto FC? It does indeed quite high.

That valuation suggests there is a significant $ league or local TV deal to bring in non gate cash flows. I am not a fan of MLS, but while they are on TV I didn't think those were high $ rights.

I thought the same thing, it does seem high.

There are two factors that could be driving this. MLSE paid a $10 million expansion fee but the league still held a stake to insure the survival of each club. It's valuation is also based on future earnings. And the intangible that soccer is the No.1 participation sport in the GTA. And three Academies have sprung up so far to develop players.

Agreed 100%. I watched the Saturday game Leafs vs Blackhawks. 4-2 in the lead into 3rd period tight 4-4 in 2 minutes then tight in the overtime lost in the shoot out. I was wondering: Is this the same Leafs or new Leafs? How could that same trend go over. over. over again? I think my winter would be a long ones as well.

Defense hard on the 3rd period is the key to secure the success of the winning.

Let's go, Leafs!!!

Soccer is a lot less expensive for families on a tight budget. All you need is a pair of shoes and shorts. The problem is that hitting the ball with your head is bad for your brain.

P.S. Nude rugby is even more cost effective. No shoes, no shorts, no shirts.

There are few teams who can handle Chicago when they go full steam ahead. At full tilt they are a handful for anyone.

Saying that, TML are loaded with talent but 2-3 years away from a solid team. They don't have a good defensive core. They are young and inexperienced or lack talent on defense. Reilly and Gardiner are not there yet.

Bring back Mark LaForest.

Isn't it a bit early for Leafs fan to be giving Frederik Anderssen the Bronx Cheer? What do they expect.

In order to build a Stanley Cup contender you need front office stability, apart from the last three years the Leafs have never had that. The damage caused by The All Highest/Truculent era cannot be turned around in three short years. Leafs fans are seriously in need of some whacky juwwaky.

A song for Leafs fans:

I am reminded of a line by an old San Francisco sports columnist, written about a bad defensive infielder on the Giants, but adapted now for Freddy Andersen:
" What do Michael Jackson and Frederick Andersen have in common?" Answer: They both wear a glove on one hand for no apparent reason.

Leaf fans have short memories.

Does anyone remember how bad Ed Belfour was his first 10 games as Leafs goalie.

With Vesa Toskala, Andrew Raycroft, and Bernier all being failures (and in two cases disasters), I can understand how Leafs fans are more prone to thinking Anderson will be a failure rather than a slow starter.
