Lupul makes no sense in this context. Totally unrelated situation.

The Jackets were going to have to pay Horton, so they traded him to get a player that would at least be able to play in Clarkson - they were a budget team not a cap team. So they were willing to take on Clarkson, and Leafs were happy to pay Horton and get the cap relief.

The Jets are not going to eat Lupul salary .. it does nothing for the. He has zero value to them.
I have to admit this salary cap thing is very confusing to me. Just thought that it could be a way for them to dump Lupuls contract with out it effecting the Leafs. Looks like the Leafs might buy out his contract instead, can't see anyone wanting him do to his injury history.
Thanks for the explanation maurice.

At that point, the team would be buying out a healthy player.
Your right but the question then becomes when will he be on the IR again. The Leafs have to many good rookies that want to make the big club to keep Lupul for the season. IMHO they will it keep him, see how he plays then decide whether to trade him or buy him out. Who knows maybe seeing the new look Leafs will light a fire in him.

Defence and goaltending will be the deciding factors for success in the new season. Plenty of offensive talent but green. Reilly and Zaitsev look promising but everyone else on defence looks like 5th d at best.

Andersen played like Bernier in preseason and if that continues into the season, no chance for playoffs.

If Leafs finish last again, or have a 1st overall lottery pick, who is the Auston Mathews or Connor McDavid this year?

He is signed for 5 years and if he plays like Bernier then it means 5 years of no playoffs no matter what other things the Leafs do ... It is so disappointing but it could be a fact he is playing in a hockey market with a big contract just newly signed that he maybe trying to think to much ... Hopefully when he gets comfortable his game will fix itself out ...

Andersen looked like he's still nursing his shoulder injury, Enroth should start the next game.

Donald Trump doesn't like Mexicans but we should, Matthews is part Mexican. His parents were at the game, he got his physique from his father but he got his looks from his Mexican mother.

Btw, where's Roman Polak, is he injured? The Leafs could have used his defensive skills last night.

That second goal was sick! Supernatural stick handling skills.

Thanks for the link. I didn't get to see the game until late in the third period so I missed all the Matthews' goals. What a great start for a 19 year old playing his first NHL game, and I like how he took responsibility for missing his check on the losing goal against. At least he got us one point to start.

The others kids played pretty good but where were all the veterans ?

And that's the point glamphotographer:

Matthews will have more pressure on him than McDavid. He plays for the Leafs and he'll be expected to lead the American hockey revival.

I waiting to see what hockey fan Katie Nolan has to say about AM. Her star is rising, she's renewed her contract with Fox Sports for significantly more money and creative freedom.

Much better team effort tonight. The kids as a group continue to impress. Andersen played much better and the KADRI line did an excellent job checking.
