The standings are real tight still. The Leafs after this big win, are 1 point behind Montreal for 2nd in the division, but are only up 6 points on Detroit, which is more or less the cut off point for the playoffs. Anything could happen still, don't look back at who is gaining on you, just look forward.

Has every game the Leafs played after the break been an one goal game? Seems that way. This team will be better when Bolland returns. He does not have to get many points, as long he helps defensively. The tying goals by Phildelphia, twice in the 3rd period, weren't like glaring defensive breakdowns, but at the same time, no one made a play. Someone has to make a play once in a while to win. Lets see if Bolland can do that for the Leafs.

Kadri will get 20 goals this year. That got me thinking. They were going to run this guy out of town. Sometimes, you got to think people, espeically the media, know shit nothing about hockey. At least we can listen to Don Cherry. He may be old, but he still know hockey.

How many Leafs centers other than Mats Sundin, has scored 20 goals lately for the Leafs?

I was thinking, Eddie Ochych? Russ Courtnell? That is going back a couple of generations of Leafs players. Even Sundin is a generation back. Then I remember Mikal Groborski scored 20 goals for the Leafs, but they ran him out of town. Groborski was not that bad, but without the free-wheeling style of coach Ron Wilson, would Garborski score 20 goals for Carlsysle? This year in Washington, Garborski has 12 goals and 21 assits for 33 points, not bad, but Kadri is having a better year.

The most improved player this season, I would say Bozak. More points, and has shown more of a complete game, which I certainly did not see coming. That is why I would think it is important to try to keep Bolland around. Bozak and Kadri can maybe watch and learn. Would have Chicago won two cups without Bolland? Lets remember Chicago had to beat some real good teams just to get to the finals.

I always like Phaneufs game, even thought there are much better skaters in the NHL. There he was, three time trading punches in the front of the goal with the other teams players after the whistle. Then he sets up the winner, after Kadri sets him up down low. Entertaining game tonight.

The only things they think about is sensationalizing, selling papers and creating controversy where there isn't any. It justifies their existence.

The guy I dislike the most lately is Dave Feschuk, in the Star. He's a little shit disturber.

You certainly got that right !
It is why the negative always makes the front pages.

I rarely read what media writes about the Leafs. Never Feschuk. I stick to the 'fact' part for instance the box scores.
Leafs.com is so easy to access.

The media's opinion of Kadri is largely based on management's decisions to keep moving him up and down from the AHL. Why couldn't a top-10 pick secure a regular spot on a team that barely makes the playoffs? Not sure what game you were watching, but Gunnarson set up Phaneuf for the GWG.
.

Gunnarson set up Phaneuf and then Phaneuf set up Lupul with a cross crease pass and it was Lupul who then scored the GWG......

And it was Kadri who passed it off to Gunnarson....

Kadri and Logan Couture are about the same age but Logan is a much superior player.

& to answer your question.. Yes, Chicago would have won 2 cups without Bolland.

And Toews is older then all of them and I would rather have him then all of them ... what is your point ?

Kadri (who was picked 7th overall) is underperforming his peer group (e.g. Couture (9th pick) and Skinner(7th pick)). Kadri really needs to up his game to justify being picked 7th overall (and using youth is a poor excuse).

HE has to justify what a GM/NHL team decided to do ?
That makes zero sense.

I am sure you chose your "peer group" carefully.

Brayden Schenn was drafted two spots ahead of Kadri in the same draft. Has he 'justified' his fifth overall pick ?

Leafs 3 Ducks 1

Leafs win the first of five on the road and three tough opponents in California.

Great team effort tonight !
Gleason had a strong game and Clarkson had a nice game more of what I expected at least.
Ranger is playing better, with more confidence.
What a back check by van Riemsdyk !
Bernier has to be the first star in my opinion.

Leafs win, and they win against a team who does not lose very often at home. The Ducks were good, but other than Perry, did not look like they were going to score on Bernie tonight.

The shots on goal was at one point 12 to 12, but it was 3-0 on the scoreboard. The Leafs after building the lead, went back into that ropey dope mode. A shot from the perimeter which Bernie can see, then clear the rebound. The Leafs did have a significant advantage in odd man rushes. Although the shots on goal were lopsided, seems to me the real good chances were about even. In the 3rd period, the Leafs played well. They played well enough to win with a lead.

Maybe Carlyle has discovered what to do with the Leafs defense, entirely by accident. Since he could not dress enough forwards, dress all the defense-men. Leafs only got seven, dress them all. Late in the game with a lead, play Pheneuf & Gunnarson, then Ranger much improved lately with Gleason. If behind, put on the kids and Franson. Makes more sense than dressing both Mclearn and Orr. Neither played tonight, and the Leafs did not back down one bit, three fights too.

I think the Leafs will need Bolland back if they are going to do anything in the playoffs. Look at how good Getzsalv and Parry were. Even the Leafs defense played them well for the most part, world class players like that will always get chances. A center who is strong in his own zone will no doubt will help the defense defend against these good offensive players.

That slacker Kessel had another bad game.:D
I am starting to think when it is all said and done ... Phil after he retires may have his name on top of all catergories lists ...

I wonder in the post expansion era ( after 1967 ) if any Leaf has ever been top 3 in scoring ? I do recall Dougie 127 point season he was 8th and his 111 season he was top 5 ... Don't know if Matts ever got top 5 ..

I thought Kessel looked a bit tired in the Philly game, but the Kadri/Lupul line picked up the slack and won the game. Last night was a huge bounce back for the top line, Bozak has been playing as good as a no. 1 centre and Kessel's unselfishness impresses me just as much. I just hope the long grind of the season and the Olympic's emotional roller coaster won't slow him (and JVR) down that much in the stretch drive and playoffs.

When the team is playing without the glaring bonehead mistakes and Bernier's on top of his game, it looks like it can compete with any team in the league.

Tonight is another tough game, back-to-back on the road against another elite west coast team. I'll be extremely happy if they can pick even just one point, but they'll need the secondary scoring and play good team defence as they did last night.

I liked how Kadri, Lupul, and Clarkson were playing in the offensive zone cycling and getting to all the loose pucks for well over a minute in the 3rd with a 3-1 lead.
