Midway thru the 2nd its 4-1 Sharks, leafs being outshot 29-7 I'm thinking they are gassed from last night. Can't watch the game but the stats so far tonight show the leafs just aren't in it.

What the hell was that?! Holy fuck. If the Leafs played like they did at after the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period, maybe they would have had a chance, but no. At least they did not go quietly into the night.

They could not even get the puck out of their damn zone in the first two periods. The only positive was to see another team, a Sharks team with a bigger momentum killing power play. They even allowed a short handed goal. Don't fool around, just get it out and chase the puck.

It just was not the Leafs' night tonight. No answer to the heavy forecheck. JVR missing a tap in. Raymond all alone in front of the net and he falls down, that's going to be in the blopper reel. JVR getting nailed by Phaneuf, best open ice hit he's throw this month.

Riemer was okay, but a couple of goals, the first one and the 4th one, could have Bernier stopped those?

The 3-1 goal and 4-1 goals were the turning point in the game. It started with the turnover by Peter Holland at the SJ blueline. I think Holland is a legitimate NHLer, who has future playing in the league, but he plays, more like he makes rookie mistakes like Kadri did two years ago. He gains the line uncontested, but inside of moving the puck forward he stops just inside the blueline, looks around, then gets knocked on his ass, play goes the other way, and they float a point shot into the net. Play a north south game damn it, especially if you are on the third line.

Again, we are back onto the topic of David Bolland. Obviously, Carlyle would have matched up Bolland against Big Joe Thorton. Since that option was not available, a small center, a even smaller center, a rookie center were the only options.

A game like tonight, you have to wonder what is best for the Leafs in the terms of the center position?

When the Leafs could not clear the zone, why not try Bolland between Kessel and JVR, just to settle things down?

Too pissed off. Too tired. Cannot rant anymore. Good night.

:cheer2:

Have to feel for Remier ... Only his second start in over two months and the start is against the Sharks at home .

Missed the Shark game, and glad I did by the sounds of it. Saw the hit Phaneuf laid out on JVR. It was good James returned to the game, and certainly hope there was no lasting effects from the hit as his head really snapped.
Doesn't sound like Toronto played a great game, but much of the highlights on TSN showed some very ugly plays by the Sharks. Holland taking a borderline elbow which led to a goal, and a couple San Jose goals coming from goalie interference and net crashing.
In the end, what's done is done. One last team then the west coast hurt is over.
Good point Kathleen. The Sharks have a lot of big bodies up front and one of the reasons they're so successful is they crash the net and cause havoc in the other teams zone. They challenge the opposition to try and move them out from the goal area and the leafs failed miserably at that last night. The Sharks would be in first place if they had a decent power play, it's the one glaring weakness on that team.

sharks are up 5-2 with about 8 mins left when jvr gets decked by dion. he goes to the quiet room for a bit. then with about 4 mins left, he comes back. would you not just sit him for the rest of the game? now its 6-2. jmho. if that was the wonderchild, do they let him return?

Yeah, bad call by the coach. Absolutely nothing to gain, everything to lose by letting him come back with the game well out of reach.
Players want to be there for the team, but this was no do or die game. It's up to management to take the decision out of their hands.
JVR has history with the C word and symptoms don't always show up right away. Cant risk losing this guy.

I think Vancouver cleans house. I think gillis is the first to go, should never have signed torts. he,s not a bad coach, just not with those crybabies in van. and he signs bieksa to all that cash, sorry wrong move, [ bieksa the walking pylon].

The Leafs deserve a lot of credit to win a game like this one. Behind 2-0 to one of the best defensive teams in the league, with the starting goalie out, they battle back, and the Leafs get a break with Kopitar missing an empty net, and score on a short handed rush right after that. After that, the Kings did not have another good chance. Maybe one.

What was surprising two night ago, was how fast San Jose was. What was surprising tonight, was how slow Los Anglese was.

Mason Raymond will score 20 goals this season, does not matter where they play him, 2nd line or 3rd line, he scores.

Phaneuf with a big goal to get the team on the board. Looking at the score sheet Kadri had two points.

Last minute of the game, Kadri on the ice, he was playing goal. Then Bozak to finish off the game. That's how it is in Leaf land, no third center but Kadri and Bozak really have improved quite a lot defensively.

WOW ! California Dreaming !

Four out of a possible six, I am not complaining.
JVR is the only one of the one line to get a point. This leads some to say the big line did not show, but they did. They forced the Kings to use their top Dmen on the first line while others could score.
Kopitar is robbed by Leaf goalies on a hat-trick of chances, once in each period.

Now I hope Bernier is ok.

Way to go Leafs !

Character win. Phaneuf not getting enough credit for how well he's played this year.
Plus 17 logging all those minutes against top lines in the NHL. 2013-14 Cap Hit: $6,500,000.
They could do a lot worse. Fransen is minus 16 if I'm not mistaken.
Too bad Nonis couldn't add another solid D like Gleason before the deadline.

Nice bounce back by Reimer after San Jose. 4 out of a very difficult 6 points.
All good this morning. Bernier was on the bench after, so hopefully nothing too serious.

They came from behind against a very good team. The guy that got the biggest boost has to be Reimer, he was near unconsciously good.

Was a little concerned about the goalie interaction.

Late in the game, LA had taken a time out. Reimer had skated to the bench, mask up on his head. He was standing right in front of Bernier, taking in water. No one talking to him. Bernier NEVER made eye contact. It just seemed odd to me...no pep talk..no chatting him up. Not a peep. Not a word. Did anyone else pick that up.

Just a little concerned about that dynamic.

Or could it be that goalies are odd ducks...and Bernier was smart enough not to upset Reimers apple cart in the end

You think too much. No doubt Reimer was in a zone. Why would anyone initiate contact or conversation. Even in the dressing room, befroe the game and inbetween periods, they often sit by themselves silent going through their ritual.

First Kopitar didn't miss an open net. He was robbed by Reimer who made a great save.
Kulemin, however, did miss an open net. That could have been costly.
Reimer have to say played very well but so did the team in front of him.
The top line was pressuring in the offensive zone. They have tremendous chemistry.
Pick up a guy like Gleason? Well, turns out that guy could in fact be Paul Ranger.
Leafs have a winning formula right now playing 7 D since the 4th line is ineffective anyway.
McClement on 4th as PK specialist. Orr the designated pugilist. That's all you need.
On D you have Gleason, Ranger, Gunnarson on PK and Reilly, Gardiner, Franson on PP and Phaneuf on both so 2 pairs on each.
What other team plays 7 D?

Agree, Ranger has played better since he came back into the lineup thus the 7D formula is working.

What's happened to Anaheim lately? Got clobbered by Calgary and have lost four straight.
They were practically invincible first quarter of the season. One loss in 22 games.

They're still 43-16-7. But competition is so good in the west, if you slip a little the losses can snowball.
Vancouver anyone...
