He's still a plus player and contributing in other ways.

Therefore they can have patience and he will come around. He's to good to not to.
yeah but to help the leafs secondary scoring he needs to start putting the puck in the net he''s snake bitten he has 11 points 2g 9a in 27 games not good enough they should scratch him and call up kadri kadri has 16 points in 8 to 9 games

4-2 Final !

Nice hits by Phaneuf and Schenn in the third.
Soft call on Bozak to give NY a two man ad, then you have no call when Rosehill was highsticked with blood.
Gustavsson was great ! I want to say stick with him tomorrow, but I understand you got to get Reimer back in there quickly.
Kessel has gone cold.
Perhaps you had better Text the Leafs coaching staff and give them your expert opinion about who should start the next game
While you are at it, get in touch with Kessel and explain to him exactly what he is doing wrong
or should that be Incredibly Obvious to him ?

Oh, my mistake ... because that is what Kessel was traded for ... to get assists.
I am sitting down, but stand corrected.
Guys are signed to the team to help the team WIN. Sure, some are more gifted in different areas and are expected to contribute in different ways. The problem with Kessel in previous years is that if he wasn't scoring, he wasn't doing much else either. I have no problem with him not scoring as long as he is creating chances for his teammates. In this case, Lupul has certainly benefited from a more "balanced" Kessel. Heck, if Lupul/Bosak is a better finisher, all their stats will even be better.

A good teammate does what is needed to help the team win. As long as the team is winning I don't care if he scores or drop dimes. Would I like to see him net 40 this year? Sure! But I would rather see the Leafs make playoffs.

Take a pill Johnny.

Touché !
I agree.

However there is no denying that Kessel is here to score goals.

That empty net goal by Steckel(sp) is actually harder than it looks. He is a left handed shooter on the left side and at a severe angle to the net.

Some of the saves by our goalie (with the hard to spell name) weren't very pretty but he got the job done.

Wow wait a minute there dude.

You cannot in all consciousness compare the AHL to the big show can ya?

The Leafs major weakness is their goal against and Kadri isn't going to help that.

Kulemin plays very well in his own zone and is defensively responsible. That's a big plus in his favour.

Jonas Gustavsson (I had to look it up, but he was good tonight), finally seems like himself, and not a clone of JS Guiere. Maybe seeing his career was slipping backwards, he stopped listening to the goalie coach, and just plays hockey now. Not pretty but he stops the puck. His record this season 9-5. Good for him, good for the Leafs. Keep this up and there will be a goalie controversy in Leaf land.

Another strong game by the Leafs, and another win and on the road. This certainly seems like a run and gun type of team. However, they are like 9-0 when leading after two periods. Maybe Ron Wilson really does have a plan. What one has to like is that in the 3rd period tonight, the few Rangers chances came from point shots and their rebounds. The Rangers could not generate much offense other than point shots in the third. The one goal lead held up until the empty netter. Last season, we know what would have happened!

Game day. Toronto, Ontario

Missed yesterday in New York City.
Gustavsson is scheduled to start, but you never know. Wilson could throw another change-up.
Nice to see Franson, Schenn gaining some confidence.
The first line doing well overall, but would like to see Kessel scoring goals more often. What is it now, five, six games since he scored. If the team maintains, and eventually locks up, a playoff spot, fine, but I think the team need Kessel to score. Just my opinion. He is still racking up points so it is not all bad.
Need the second line to be more consistent even if to give other teams D units something else to think about.

Leafs certainly need scoring from the lines besides Kessels. So far there is no consistent scoring from any line but the Kessel line.
As long as Kessel plays with the effort and enthusiasm the goals will come. He is being checked a lot more aggressively of late which means Bozak and Lupol will have to pick him up and imo they are doing a pretty good job.

Exactly, and therein lies my concerns. If the secondary scoring does not pick up, Kessel will be checked all season long. When other players are going, it gives the opponent something else to think about.
Making the playoffs is definitely number one, but a little icing on the playoff cake, Kessel winning the Rocket trophy, would be great.

Not a great game tonight, not a bad game either for the Leafs.

What a goal by Frattin. Franson skates it out from the red line, to Garborski, to Frattin, he shoots he scores! From your own red line, two passes later and it is in the back of the net at the other end of the ice.

Kovochek, definitely has lost a step and a half. Just not the same player. That NJ team looks old. And slow.

Looks like Armstrong will be back in the next game Friday on the road against Washington.

Phil kessel is no longer the NHL scoring leader with 35 points Claude Giroux had a 4 point night vs buffalo and now has 36 points to kessel's 35

with that being said other leafs besides kessel and loops have to show up

Game day. Washington, D.C.

The Leafs may get some help from the injury list. Armstrong and MacArthur may return. In any event, at least one will play tonight, to make room Colborne has been sent back to the Marlies.
Kessel is no longer(currently) the leader in points in the NHL.
I think Gustavsson should start. It will be a long stretch with few games, which is difficult for a goalie coming off injury trying to play back into shape. The Leafs have three days off(yes, not playing Saturday night again) after this game. Home to Carolina on Tuesday. Nine days to play two games. This is followed up by back to back games and three games in four nights.
Penalty kill was steadily improving, but allowed two PP goals in the last game.
Kulemin playing well, despite not scoring. He believes it will eventually come.

Ovechkin has scored recently, but it has not helped the Caps.
