You think that Trump has any clue as to what the trade negotiations were all about? All he wanted was to screw Canada, and Freeland refused to sign off with it.
Pelosi clearly stated that if Canada was not included in this deal, then there was no chance of it passing through the House.
This deal with Freeland in tandem with Mexico gave all the parties what they wanted. Freeland was praised for it generally by all the media for being tough with the USA, and getting Mexico's co-operation!!

Ummm....because it wasn't remotely close to the same thing. Trump is saying he'll put tariffs on all imported goods, across the board. Not targeted. It will raise prices for virtually everything people buy, and likely lead to retaliatory tariffs from other countries. This is what the US did at the start of the Great Depression....and it made it significantly worse! Trump is being criticized because he is constantly telling people the other countries will be the ones paying for tariffs, like the additional costs wouldn't be passed down to consumers...
Biden's tariffs on Chinese EVs is happening because China is trying to flood the market and destroy domestic demand. Is it protectionist? Yes. But, will it hurt the overall economy? Marginally if at all.
