Do you have any studies that show that masks don't reduce the velocity of airborne vapour or aerosols?
I already posted them ITT. You can do a search if you'd like

And now, after almost 2 years into the pandemic, the head of Ontario's science table (whatever that is) finally confirms what I've been saying all along. Most masks people are currently wearing dont do shit

If you're still wearing a single layer cloth mask 'ditch it,' head of Ontario's science table says

If you are using a single-layer cloth mask to protect yourself from a new COVID-19 variant that is believed to be more than six times as infectious as Delta “ditch it, full stop.”

At least that is the message from the scientific director of Ontario’s Science Advisory Table, who tells CP24 that there is likely a need for higher grade masks amid the threat posed by Omicron, particularly for frontline workers.

“One thing which is really important to realize is if you have a single layer cloth mask ditch it, full stop,” Dr. Peter Jüni said. “The minimum would be a double layered cloth mask that has been washed before so that it is denser and filters better and really fits well. Even better than that a medical mask below and the cloth mask on top and then it depends on your (exposure). If you are a bus driver for example it makes sense even to think about better protections.”

For much of the pandemic, government officials have resisted acknowledging that COVID-19 is transmitted via aerosol spread insisting that it was spread by droplets. But on Wednesday Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore told reporters that he is concerned that there could be “much more aerosol spread” with Omicron compared to previous strains of the virus.

Public Health Ontario also issued an advisory on Wednesday recommending that all healthcare workers treating suspected COVID-19 patients should wear respirator masks, which is a higher grade of mask than they were previously provided with in most circumstances.

The advisory says that the evidence did not support a significant protective effect of N95 respirator use over medical masks when caring for patients with suspected COVID-19 infections prior to the emergence of Omicron.

But it said that it is “unclear at this time if there is a change in the infectiousness of aerosols as a possible explanation for the increase in transmissibility” associated with the new variant, underscoring the need for caution until more is known.

The order does not impact health-care workers who are not believed to be coming into contact with COVID-19 patients, despite concerns previously raised by the Ontario Nurses' Association in a court challenge in which they pushed for access to N95 masks.

Speaking with CP24 on Thursday, Jüni said that COVID is an “airborne disease” that is “transmitted through the airborne route” and we “need to acknowledge that in our protection.”

Most of us common sense folks only use 3 ply masks that fit snuggly around the face. I do agree simple cloth masks are useless. The same goes for dudes wearing a bandana around their mug because it's not cool wearing a mask.

Again, "useless" is incorrect. Not as useful is an accurate statement which I doubt anyone has disagreed with since the beginning but even 30% effectiveness of a shitty bandanna is better than what the anti-maskers are doing.

Nope. The virus is airborne. Air will go right through a cloth or surgical mask.
And its nice to see that the slowpokes at CNN finally agree with me

Masks were interesting.

On the far right you had immature people refusing to wear then.

On the far left who had people outraged at people who didn’t wear them. ( and wore them like a gas mask)

In the middle you had normal people who wore them just to get into to places and keep the peace.

DId you pull the surgical mask out of your ass? 😷 She only mentioned cloth masks which anyone with half a cell in their brain would know cloth masks don't cut it or a mask around the face full of gaps, or any mask worn under the nose and used as a chin strap.

Surgical masks are just as bad, which is kinda the point of this thread

But I hear tinfoil stops them.

Sorry but as I've said from the beginning of this thread, all masks have some impact but some are better than others.

As for airborne, do we need to go back to the aerosol vs. pore diameter thing again?

You can choose whether to wear a mask or not but if you're breathing the same air as me in a place they are mandated, I'm going to say something.

ok. So you’re way toooo far left.

I spent 2 years wearing a cloth mask which has just been proven as a waste of time. Would you say something about the kind of mask I’m wearing. I’d love to see that.

Btw. I’m in the middle. Keeping the peace.

Cloth and surgical masks stop air as well as a mask would stop car exhaust if you put the mask around a muffler.

Definitely not a waste of time as you did the right thing.
It is just now with the omicron strain that made the cloth masks obsolete.

It's how viruses work. You protect yourself from it, they mutate to different strain etc. so you need to upgrade your protection to match them.

TLDR, the virus upgraded itself, now we need to upgrade ourselves for better protection.

Wow. So molecules of CO, CO2 and the various sulphates and nitrates can pass through masks? What about O2? You really can use a physics refresher on the size difference between a molecule and a droplet/aerosol. A surgical mask will stop most of the particulate ("smoke") though with the volume of gas pushed through a muffler, it will get clogged up pretty fast.

A mask is not a hazmat suit. They are not meant to filter out everything. Their job is mainly to reduce the chance and velocity of droplets and aerosols containing the virus which is the main vector of transmission. Even cheap cloth masks will stop large droplets and medical grade surgical masks will stop most aerosols. And again, the effectiveness of a level 3 surgical mask is not much different than that of an N95 that isn't professionally fitted.

Would making everyone wear N95 masks be effective? Maybe but not unless people take the time to wear them properly and unless the knock-off masks are taken off the market.

This is the same strawman argument we've been hearing for two years. Covid virus is too small for surgical/cloth masks, it is airborne, it passes right through the rag you have on your face . The last two weeks should have driven the point home, yet too many are still living in denial.

Speaking up for my own safety and pushing personal responsibility is too far left?
