way out in left field
Don't try to refund something.

I returned a small item today to Radio Shit. Now known as The Source.

It was a $9.00 item.

I returned it to the same guy who sold it to me and he remembered me.

They wanted my name and address and phone number! I paid cash for the item and they would not refund the cash unless I gave them that info. I even spoke to the Manager and he refused.

So I gave them John Public, 123 Main Street, Toronto, and a fictitious phone number.

Why should I have to give out my personal info?
Just in case there's a problem with the item. For eg: you have a unit at home that is 3 yrs old. It breaks. You go buy a new one, put the old one in the box, and keep the new one.

As for the "family outing" shoppers, oh that bugs the hell outta me too. I mean seriously, why does grandma, greatgrandpa, 2 aunts, 3 uncles, 4 kids, 8 parents and two visitors from asia HAVE to come with you to buy a box of cereal?????

Why do some people still pay with cash and fumble with their money:(? Have they never heard of a debit or credit card?
I don't have a problem with people paying with cash, but have the money ready. It's not like you being asked to pay is a surprise. As a bartender this is my main pet peeve about customers. They order a drink, I give them the drink and then they seem surprised when I tell them the price and want money. Women are the worst for this whether it's at my bar or standing in line at the store. If paying by cash, debit, or credit. HAVE THE ITEM WITH WHICH YOU ARE PAYING FOR YOUR PURCHASE OUT AND READY BEFORE BEING ASKED FOR IT. It makes thing flow so much easier.

Go out and shop and have fun....you know it is going to be busy so relax. I hate the people who get pissed off for no other reason, then it's busy. I get flipped the bird more at Christmas than any other time of year....Well, Merry Fuckin Ho! Ho! to you too...lol

People relax it shouldn't be so bloody stressful.

Ok, two pet peeves and one pet please.
1) Why do "cashier schools" teach cashiers to slam your bananas and tomatos:mad: on the scale? Don't they know or care this stuff bruises easily (like me)?
2) When I buy 10 tins of the identical dog food, why can't they punch in the 10 items as 10 times $2 each instead of scanning each tin individually?
3) Pet please is the "paypass" system at some stores. You just tap your card and it is all done, no mess, no fuss and no signature.

In order

1) Parking lots - people don't know how to drive, walk, park, watch their kids, etc.

2) Unknowledgable staff - Was at Walmart last night wanting to buy outdoor christmas lights, how do you not know where they are when you work in seasonal?

3) Pissed off people because they are in a rush shopping at xmas. They are rude, push by you, bump your cart, etc.

4) Pushing to buy more - reward cards, donations, warranties, etc.

5) Cashiers - not enough of them, little training, cashiers around the store but not manned. Or in places where your item needs to be unlocked, but there is not a person there to unlock it except the cashier who has 10 people in line before you.

As for cash payers. I am one of them. No debit, no CC, all cash. I am out faster then those who need to push buttons, or sign a receipt. I have many cashier thank me for pay in cash even purchases over a grand. All cash, all the time. Usually pretty good at exact change too but I have great eye sight. LOL

Guess it helps that I was originally in accounting. I can pretty much total much purchases and add the tax in my head, so 9 times out of 10, I have the money ready. Also helps that I am the only one answering the phones for the agency, so I want out from the cashier as fast as possible.

Biggest pet peeve is farking stores advertising fantastic specials for the whole week and then selling them out in a couple minutes the first day because they only had a few of them to begin with. Best Buy in the biggest offender here in the States.
Illegal in Canada (and called, guess what? Bait & Switch) and investigated by the Competition Bureau. Electronics guys are the biggest offenders here as well.

I said: " I find you very rude, and think I will take business elsewhere" and walked out. She didn't not say one word as I walked out. I drove to another store and they gladly accepted my money.
And at the end of the day you wasted more of your time than anyone in that store. That woman didn't say anything because she had nothing to say. While I agree that retailers should provide a decent level of service, you seem to have an unrealistic expectation that your fat wallet will bring you respect.

I agree that if the salesperson isn't on commission, then the effect is minimal on him/her. However, I bet that store will not get his business again. If enough people get pissed off with bad service then the owner/manager will start to notice - that does affect the salesperson.

Whenever I get lousy service and go somewhere else and make the purchase, I am reminded of that scene in Pretty Woman when she goes back to the first store and rubs it in their faces on all the commission they missed.

The woman was actually a co-owner. I saw the other owner at a funeral nearly a year later and told her my story and she said she had bought the woman out of her share and that I wasn't the only one to complain.
She asked if I would return to her store to see the changes, I wished her good luck but I found another store that carry the same products and will continue to give them my business and never return to her store. I didn't say it in a nasty tone or talk down to her just stated a fact, she was not upset and said she understood and she would have done the same thing.

I've been running my own business since I was in my early twenty's and have done very very well and it was mostly based on something called "customer service". My business, my choice.

Other posters obviously have never been self employed and have a mis-conception about a "fat wallet" commanding respect but means nothing to me, they obviously do not understand what I posted. I never "have an unrealistic expectation that my fat wallet will bring me respect", respecting someone for the contents of their wallet is ludicrious! I do expect an "acceptable level of service" and if I do not get an "acceptable level of service" I walk. My choice.

There are far too many people that will accept poor service, rudeness, bad attitude, poor quality, and all round " I don't give a f*ck about the customer shitty service" that's fine, life is made up of choices. I'm not one of those people that will accept it! My choice.

I repeat, there is no store or person that sells a product or service that isn't carried by someone else and since this a free market society the best service gets the contents of my "fat wallet"

My choice.

I truly hate it when I walk through a shopping mall at X-Mas time and do not see any cute girl in a skimpy Santa's helper outfit. That's just so wrong.

Here is another pet peeve. Those corny TV commercials by stores and service providers that tells you if you buy their product/service your family life will be immensely improved. Tim Horton and the hockey girl. Swiss Chalet that claims they bring families together. There is also a TV commercial (Rogers?) advertising TV's as a way to bring families together in the rec room.
