Since we are heading into the year's busiest shopping season, CTV did a little feature during its noon news broadcast about shopping peeves. Here is one from a phone in caller.

What is your shopping pet peeve?

When there is one cash desk with a long line, and a bunch of staff hanging around doing low priority things. They should drop what they are doing and serve the customers, then go back to their admin projects.

Why? It's not for you. If it comes damaged, then they can always send it back and get a new one. And if they don't like the label-maker, then they can re-gift it.

Speaking of people. Why do some families bring so many people to No Frills or any grocery store for that matter? Granddad, grandma, father, mother, sister and their 8 kids.

Biggest pet peeve is farking stores advertising fantastic specials for the whole week and then selling them out in a couple minutes the first day because they only had a few of them to begin with. Best Buy in the biggest offender here in the States.

YES! and the day after the sale is over...all of a sudden..poof they have them in stock again

Optimizing packages for computers!

You buy a brand new PC, it should be ALREADY set to run the best!
However these farking companies load them up with freeware/bloatware to slow them down a bit, then want to charge you to remove the crap they put in to begin with!
This is pure thievery!

My kids freaking out because I won't buy them a $40 toy.

1) I am at the counter asking questions or paying and the phone rings and s/he picks it up.
A quick answer I can tolerate but when the salesperson starts getting into details or problem solving I get pissed off.
2) When they ask for personal info so they can track, please waste more of my time.

Funny, but cash is still king. There is NO way to immediately transfer funds from one bank to another with no delay. Bank Transfers, Certified Cheques, etc ALL need to be confirmed before allowing release of funds.

In case you didn't know, both interact and CC payments in store have service charges attached to them, cash doesn't....

My pet peeve is to do with checkouts (still): Loblaws will allow 10 or more people lined up at 4 or 5 cashiers and not open any to release the backlog.

Another pet peeve: Out of Stock. Far far far too many times the item I want or need to purchase is out of stock effectively wasting my time going to that store......

Stores that try to sell you their loyalty programs. Barnes & Noble for example. Pay $20 or something like that and you build up points with purchases or some crap.
I still think this is what killed Media Play in the states. Went there one time and had four, count 'em, four different people try to sell me their Reply membership. Geez Louise, NO means %^&*NO!

Stores that have big sales on milk pop bread etc.(A certain big name Drug Store is famous for this) Then you see people loaded up to the gills whole families really with carts filled..You KNOW they have a Variety Store somewhere!!
I complained to the Mgr. but got the brush off I simply stated I would be taking my business which is about 500.00 per month in perscriptions plus other sundrie items elsewhere he quickly changed his tune and posted a sign saying limit of 4 per customer the next day.

I really do not like shopping at all. I know what I want ahead of time, go to the store that sells it at the most competitive price- go in, get it and get out as quickly as possible. Having said this,

1. Stupid sales people- a good sales person should be present when I need them, and invisible when I don't. (Like a good waiter/ waitress)
2. LONG lines at check-outs because of:
3. Upselling at the counter- Loyalty programs, extended warranties etc. If I want something, I will ask for it.

All I can say is THANK GOD Mrs. CG loves shopping!

+1...and they company gets the tax credit for it and you don't.

When they ask me, I asked them back if I can have a tex receipt and get a funny look back.
