THe skullduggery of Smitherman and the smear campaign backfired!![/I][/B]

Here, here. However, if asked that question about his arrest, I woud've said 'no comment', this way, he's not lying. He's not the slyest or coolest political cucumber, but that's why I like him - less political bullshitting around.

You are an idiot ... where in my statement is a bigot remark!!!! You are an impecile !!! Go kiss Smitherman's Ass or David Miller cronies butthole!!
When you have to keep paying taxes example garbage bag tax, landtransfer tax, increases in TTC tokens, etc. Soon probably toll tax on road. The 5 cent per grocery bag, TV or computer monitor taxes, etc.... Taxpayer starting to get fucking mad... you work and 50% of your salary goes to gov't in some form of taxes.

Fuck you to all the leftwing nuts & David Miller cronies who keep on increases tax and wasteful spending at City Hall.

Hey I am not rich and cost of living is going up every year plus taxes. And my salary still remain the same.
With Ford I know he will look after the taxpayer money!!!
Amen and God Bless. (Why is it that Smitherman who under the Minister of Health, isn't raked over the coals for the E-Health scandal which cost taxpayers millions if not more? What stupidity that we let him be.)

Except he didn't say "no comment", he blatantly lied, and had to repeatedly update his story as he was confronted with the evidence of his lies. That's the SAME tactic he used on two other occasions when he had to face an uncomfortable truth--he lied about it until confronted with evidence.

Remember that Miller was elected over a single issue that resonated with the public: The bridge to Toronto Island. That was pretty much it. The danger in electing Ford on a single issue (union busting) when he displays SO MANY general character flaws including a habit of lying to the public is that we'll get someone far worse than Miller. If it turns out that he can't do anything about the union anyway--because it's hard, and he hasn't demonstrated that he's up to hard jobs--then what? We get fucked over with a buffoon in the mayor's office in exchange for nothing.

It's much better to put someone into that office who is generally of good character and can be trusted with WHATEVER issue comes along.

You know it's not too late--if Ford dropped out of the race there's be a big hole on the right side of the political spectrum that could be filled by someone a little more credible.

If you listen to his entire "Orientals work like dogs," statement he was actually praising them. The choice of the word Orientals instead of Asians was a bit politically incorrect but I don't think it crosses the line to bigotry.

I guess his anti-homosexual views, his anti-refugee views, that's all praise too? The man is a bigot who yells things like "Do you want your little wife to go over to Iran and get raped and shot" at people he meets in public.

You're using a quote from a few years back where Ford admitted he was inebriated and under stress both on the home and work front. Do you really expect us to believe you haven't said a boneheaded thing when you've been drunk fuji. I don't think Ford is a bigot. I think he at times has shown ignorance, but not bigotry.

Maybe that will be Ford's excuse when he runs this city into the ground and proves to be a huge embarrassment for Toronto....

He's a politician Fuji is not....He's got to have some common sense and a filter for his big ignorant mouth (at least we get to see him for who he is)....

Hey get with it, guys and gals.
You're behind on the scandaling.

The star has an article suggesting that Ford is now under investigation for misuse of his position for his private fundraising.
Goodbye Ford.

Yeah he has an excuse for that day, and an excuse for his refugee statements, and an excuse for his lies about being convicted.

Excuses an more excuses--yup, you got it. Apparently last time around the judge didn't buy the excuse..

He used some city envelopes for a Charity event - who cares.

Lets remember - he runs that office without billing the City a dime!!

So...money (The usual devil ) is not he culprit....as he PAID for the ENVELOPES HIMSELF!

A lost leader in the smear campaign.

I expect a JUMP in the poles after this latest smear!

All this is semantics. Smear him all you want, there is no one else in the race who can be a better mayor than Ford, which is why he's got my vote. His constituents (all races btw) love him. He's hard working, he cares about the city and he's a strong personality. Good enough for me.

Ford actually is not a politician, he's a business man who ran for office. That is kind of refreshing in that he does not have the automatic 15 second sound bite mentality that proffessionsal politicians have .

This story in the Star has been spun in FORDS favour already this morning!!!!!!

Eg - The $12,000 Kyle Rae Party,,the $6200 Giambroni private language lessons, the Sandra Bussien(sp) 4200 baseball spending......

these are the expenses FORD talks about as a corruption and waste at city Hall ..and he's RIGHT..

His "integrity issue" is that he used city envelopes (THAT HE BOUGHT) to collect money for his charity!!!!

PULLEASE!!!

This is gonna be spun back in a 180 faster than you can say...FORD WINS!!!!

This how alot of indigenous canadians, a.k.a. 'real canadians', think man. I know not everyone sees things that way, but a hell of a lot more than you seem willing to acknowledge. That's why they're giving him a pass on all this...they kind of are in synch. with they way he thinks. I've seen, heard, and even been subjected to worse in the course of my life here, so it doesn't really surprise me the way that throwback to leave it to beaver comes across.

I have my doubts about how effective he'll be, but his candidacy has resonated with the public, so I think the political class of this city ought to be listening and figuring out why. But in their smug arrogance, they probably won't

They wount because they just can not imagine that they are wrong, everybody thinks like them, 10 sec sound bites tell people what they should be thinking and what thy want to hear.

With the media concentration in Toronto as well as all the "elites" discussing what should be happening with the chattering classes , not please not what actually is happening things tend to get out on one end of the pendulum arc, and then unfortunatly it has to swing back . The swing back is generally a really really really big swing. Thats the point where we are now on the back swing. The people in Toronto are pissed at every one of the allegations coming out of the Magical World of city hall, 12000.00 goodby parties and french lessons when people have to decide on food or rent, projects that are running 200% over budget , contracts that guartantee jobs for life at multiples of the salary they are earning. Eventually it all comes to a head.

I doubt Rob Ford would have any hope of winning an election in a city that is remotely well managed, tha anger that is making him a viable candidate is a city wide thing. Everbody but the "elite" have realized that something is rotten in Denmark ( to paraphrase the bard) .

Why the backlash is happening is easily understandable for perhaps everbody except the people who matter and some of the newspaper editors.

His popularity is for one reason only: People got pissed off at the TTC strike and the abusive way the city's union treat taxpayers. They want something done about it.

The problem is that's only one issue and after that you've got a lying convict of poor character with some wacko views on immigrants and refugees who hates gays and spews racist crap when he frequently gets drunk. The guy's not even smart enough not to drink and drive and has a police record longer than my arm. He's apparently been arrested so many times that he doesn't recall all the charges he's faced!

We need the unions cleaned up, but we don't need a drunk bigoted liar.

In your backyard
Why not. He's Ok in my books. He seems more legit than most of us. His last name is powerful south of the border and if they had caught him with cocaine he still would not be charge. He's rich, educated, married with four children and doesn't live a boring life. You got to give him a hand.

Is he any more of a clown than Mel Lastman was ?

Rob Ford is cashing in on the population's distrust with the current "gang of thieves" that run the place. This growing disgust really gained momentum with the garbage strike and TTC issues last year.

Yes Ford does seems like a bit of a bufoon but honestly how many of us have never smoked a joint ? Or driven over .08 at least once or twice? Or yelled at someone ? Might be good for the city if he could clean house for a year before blowing up and resigning over some trailer-trash issue or another.
you are right about smoking a joint, boozing or yelling at people at a hockey game..most of us have done one or more of those things..however when confronted about it what seperates a class act from a classless pantload is telling the truth about it..
