PS- The retirement age is going up. It's just a matter of when.

Immigration was the answer but that blew up real good. If the plan was to be 100 million by 2100, to fund social programs, the government needs to get it right and be carefully selective who gets in. I don`t see any hope of that happening. I don`t see anything changing for the better.

I remember when Harper wanted to raise the age to receive OAS (Old age security), to 67. Thank goodness, Justin lowered it back to 65. I hope Carney keeps it at 65??

The rhetoric on annexing Canada, Greenland and taking back control of the Panama Canal should not be ignored.
The tariffs imposed on Canada are just a subset of the annexation goal.
Trump sees Canada as a weak federation of provinces that increasingly challenge the authority of an anemic federal government, a nation that he is successfully exploiting.
Trump will find other ways to circumvent the House, Senate and Congress to achieve his goals such as declaring false emergencies at the Canada border due to Fentanyl or immigration as Trump behaves in a totalitarian manner as much as he can.

Well, if that's the case I will welcome Albertans and treat them like any other U.S. citizen.

Most of the women who vote for the liberals do out of self interest. They believe affirmation action is better than the merit based system because they win more often then they lose. They also believe in the scary fairy tale about conservatives taking away the abortion rights.

And if you want to conclude I am anti women you are wrong. conservative women are our country’s most valuable resource. Liberal women on the other hand are a dime a dozen.

I don't agree entirely with your assessment. Affirmative action opened doors for women. Their academic achievement levels allowed them to blow through these doors in many organizations. The good, ol' boy networks were (are) a real thing and women were allowed to hold their coffee.

The problem is when liberals say why aren't there any female engineers in this place or why aren't their more females in the mine.

Most of the women I know don't get sucked into silly equity battles.

I find that people that comment on the CPP's viability often use US-based talking points, which don't apply.

Fair enough, but industrialized countries all face the same demographic challenges with govt. managed pension plans.

Every country can postpone increasing the retirement age with various policy tweaks. From what I know, Canada has been successful in closing funding gaps with higher contribution rates and immigration in recent years. Every policy solution to funding govt. pensions involves trade-offs.

I would avoid thinking that Canada has some magic pension formula to the problem of extended longevity.

1. Poilievre says he'll keep retirement age at 65 in play for boomers

OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says his government would hold the retirement age at 65 and delay the mandatory RRSP withdrawal date by two years in a bid to attract baby boomer and older Gen X voters.

“We will not raise the retirement age,” Poilievre said as he committed that Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) payments will continue to start at age 65 under a Conservative government.

Poilievre also promised to extend the mandatory withdrawal date for RRSPs by two years, meaning seniors would be able to keep contributing to their RRSPs until 73.

On top of that, Poilievre committed to boosting the basic personal income tax exemption for working seniors to $25,000 from $15,000, though Poilievre did not specify the age at which it would start. That means that income up to $25,000 will be exempt from federal tax on top of any other tax deductions for seniors.

Later today, Mark Carney promised to do the same things, too.
