I went to a catholic school. Due to a constitutional quirk, it is publicly funded. Should it continue to exist? Not really. I think religion should be taught to children, but not about converting or joining any of them. Should they learn about Jesus, Mohammad and Buddha? Yes. Should they learn parts of the religion so they have a better understanding of the world and what is causing things to happen? Yes. Should they be told that one religion is better than the other an they should get baptized or convert? Fuck no. That is a personal choice. Yes, our parents might raise us in a particular faith, but at a certain point you decide if that is right for you.
Teaching about LGBTQ stuff is similar. Should they tell kids they are straight or gay? No, but does it hurt them to understand what that means? No! It isn't grooming anyone to all of a sudden have boys be tricked into being attracted to other boys, or that a girl should transition into another gender. If anything, it is to teach them that homosexuals exist, and they are just people who deserve respect because they were born that way. And I think that last part is the main reason why conservatives are outraged by this. They don't want a world where you can't call someone faggot or where it isn't acceptable to discriminate against someone for being different
