It was also my favourite - I didn't even know they reopened!
I didn't know either until very recently. Apparently after the old man died the family did not want to run the restaurant so it was closed for a few years, and then sold to one of the former chefs who is now a businessman. He renovated the restaurant and re opened it.
I haven't been since the new management but will be going right after the holiday season.

Steak - Jacobs & Co - I feel they are just at another level compared to others, especially with their extensive choices of Wagyu and Kobe options

Continental - Scaramouche- without a doubt the culinary creations are phenomenal and service impeccable

Italian - Buca - as close to traditional regional Italian cuisine as you can get in this city

Resto's

I think all the places that are mentioned are great. That's why they are recommendations. WE liked them. Doesn't mean you personally have to.

I am surprised no one mentiond Jacobs steak house yet

But my favorite is got to be Blu ristorante by far at least for 2

At least 8 people have mentioned Jacob's
There is a reason for that... have most gone? That's another story.

I not a fan people that ask for best or top restaurants blindly. Give a criteria of what foods are you are looking for, otherwise you will get variety to good and over hyped places.

Are you going food? Ambiance? Scenery? or the whole package?
Lastly the day of the week will make the biggest list change (Jacob - unless you know the owner or tip the hostess well... you are not going to get a table last minute).

OP asked for steak or seafood. That sounds pretty specific to me. Doesn't care about the ambience but even for the ones who do, it's a solid choice.

The people who recommended Jacobs probably have gone too. What's with this doubt of blind recommendations? Do people really do that? Doubt it..

I love Jacobs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to another person. You also don't have to be buddy buddy with the owner to get a table last minute depending on the night. I go there at least once a month with no problems and I'm a serial last minute booker.

I know what Space asked in thread... I was referring to others in general.
As for blind recos, you never know with this board at times... just reading some actual (non-restros) reviews, I SMH (shake my head) and wonder...

One of the owners always hides over at Citizen and recently has a thing for Asian girls LOL.
I used to go every 2 weeks (my own time or with business clients) so the hostesses usually have no issues with last minute (1-day notice) reservations.

LOL at non-resto reviews. True. I feel you.

I have been to steakhouses all over. New York, Vegas, Miami, Tokyo etc, and I have been to all the top steak establishments in Toronto, and I also go to Jacobs last minute all the time, and it is not an issue. From my experience as a general observance Toronto's steak scene is subpar especially when compared to NY and other cities and this is even more of a reason that in my personal opinion Jacobs is at another level compared to the competition in this city, just my own opinion. Again everyone has their own tastes and likes and dislikes and some have a larger sample size to make comparisons.
