LOL.. I was not referring to your places to eat. I was pointing out to Space where to go and he values my direction hahahaha.

Space.. is this a dinner for 2 or 4?
I looked at the pictures of the steaks.. and the medium rare at harbour 60 looks like they're well done on the outside and then it -suddenly- turns rare in the middle, like they just throw the whole thing on a pan right out of the fridge without getting it to room temperature first :(

It's for myself... :p

A great steak is always Charbroiled over a bed of HOT coal embers (1200F+)
Some restro cheat with technology and use a ceraminc oven and flash broil the steak at (2500-3500F)... thats how you the searing (cooked) on the outide and lock in the juices and Rare to Med-Rare on the inside.

Since you are flying solo... I would say, go to Keg on King.
Jacobs and Harbor 60 are generally a group type of establishment.

Unique, Canada
Thats because I am not driving up to Thornhill for a steak when I can get better downtown.
But, and there is always a butt, there are thousands of us that won't drive into hell (read downtown) for a good meal with all that's available in the GTA. :D

Excellent fish diiner. At BLU Yorkville

I think all the places that are mentioned are great. That's why they are recommendations. WE liked them. Doesn't mean you personally have to.
Chilean sea bass dinner chilled Riesling wine

Dinner was like sex on a plate .....moist .......soft ......tasty .......texture smooth

Dessert afterwards another spectacular event

For steaks try Carmen's steakhouse. I haven't been since the new owner and the renovations but if it's anything like before, this was the best steakhouse in Toronto.

Interesting thread to bump, for posterity's sake here's my list off the top of my head:

For downtown steak there are really too many:
Hys
Ruth Chris
Mortons
Harbour 60
Jacobs
Nao (Yorkville and haven't tried but heard good things
Tom Jones
Barberians

For non-steak:
Scaramouche
Splendido
The Chase
Chase Fish & Oyster
Joso's (try the squid ink risotto)
Richmond Station
Buca
Buca Yorkville
Notabene
Lee

For more electric environs but lovely food
Portland Variety
Bar Isabel
R&D
Dailo
The good son

Best Sushi:
Sushi Kaji (by far, Etobicoke)
Jabistro
Yasu
Yuzu
Japango
Yunaghi

^^^ Yasu is really great Sushi.

But I also went to Yuzu and it was the worst Sushi I have ever had in my life. Inedible in fact. And very expensive.

Kaji is still the best Sushi in Toronto however.

That's a shame. I had a bad time at Jabistro once but very unusual. Yuzu and Japango are owned by the same guy, Bruce, and he takes a more modern take on many nigiri sushi (ie. Butter fish nigiri with a faint hint of garlic oil and a light sprinkle of fried garlic) which I find decadently rich but otherwise divine.

Between Keg, Barberians, Hy's, and Ruth's Chris, I'd suggest Jacobs. Outstanding steaks and perfect service.

The Keg is underrated, too!
I agree. No one can really beat Jacobs Steakhouse for the expert cuts, including Wagyu beef, and superior wine cellar, which lists superlative vintages including First Growth bottles. No one can beat Jacobs for an impressive and unforgettable meal fit for royalty or even various Raptors.

Having steaks at Jacobs is similar to having Japanese sashimi! The meat is real tasty and stay in your mouth a long time. Pricey but I can't wait to go back there.

I would respectfully disagree. They're inconstant, I find, when they're good they're really good but semi-frequently I find the steaks overly salted and cooked just off where requested. Consistency I would say Hys, otherwise, Tom Jones.

I know some people think that Ruth's Chris is overrated but I find them to be the most consistent.

Barbarian's is my favourite but the last time I was there I found the steak was much more medium as opposed to medium-rare. No biggie but I was slightly disappointed.

Hope you told the waiter. With the prices they charge if it isn't right get it fixed!

Can anyone recommend a quiet restaurant that serves steak and seafood where two people can have a nice conversation over dinner.
