As I said before, this episode was ripped off from the series finale of 6 Feet Under. ESPECIALLY the 5 minute sequence you glorify, was a complete rip-off of Claire driving in a car (intercut with future flashes of the family members dying) until she ultimately dies. The Lost producers made alternate ending parodies mimicking the Sopranos and Newhart but the truth is, their actual ending was a rip-off as well.

I heard it, and understood it to mean that everything that happened, happened, EXCEPT for what we came to know as the "alternate reality". This was all stuff made up in Jack's imagination... sort of a "purgatory situation" to resolve issues. e.g. he never really had a son, but that Jack's son was an imagined personality to help Jack overcome is own "father issues",
Actually, I watched it again last night, it does actually explain a lot the second time around. Lot's of little visual and verbal cues. I paid more attention and heard the line. THE line that is. But it wasn't just Jack's version, everyone contributed to it. Christian said something about "they all had a part in making this" ......

Clare's son erin: so, are we to understand that when he died as an adult he reverted back to an infant in order to move on? (or he died as a baby but we know that isn't the case because Kate raised him).
Hurley was supposed to be immortal, how did he end up in pergatory?
One thing that I DID figure out last night was why babies conceived on the island don't go full term. As Jacob and MIB were born on the island and were chosen, I guess they can't have more than 2 protectors? But still isn't 100% clear.
The cheesy bastard producers let on that there will be a lot more explained when you buy the Blu Ray disc.....(they let it slip during the Jimmy Kimmel show).
I haven't watched it again yet, and really need to... I had a BBQ Sunday night and had a few "pops" in the afternoon as well, so maybe wasn't as "clear" as I shoulda been LOL. Waiting for the D-L to finish!!! ARG!
Don't know if this was a "mistake" or just another Sawyer anacronysm but in the purgatory timeline, He called Miles Enos (in reference to the cop show) and when they made it onto the plane before take off, he said to him "nice to see you too enos"........
I actually liked how they put the characters together... Sayid & Shannon, Juliet & Sawyer, Charlie & Claire, Jack & Kate finally professing their love for each other etc...
I do have to watch it again, to catch all the nuances... I missed the set-up show before hand as well!
(I had company over for a BBQ and missed the first 1:45 of the preshow recap special...)Yeah, he ended up having a spin off show of his own.....kind of an andy of mayberry/don knotts......
I had somebody who would give me the complete season every year - started strong but half way through the 4th season I just got fed up. It was like some guys on bad drugs were writing the script and took a few odd ideas for a spin off series to cram into this one. I'm bit torrenting the summary and conclusion out of curiosity but it really should have been limited to two seasons - then the pace & plot would have made it more memorable.
I particularly liked that the series ended with Jack's eye, just as it started... The only difference being his eye closing this time.

I have to admit that I particularly liked how Sawyer and Jack came too like each other in the end. Both on the island and in the church at the end.
Especially since they were polar opposites during most of the show.

Michael died on the Island and became stuck as one of the phantom whispers, I guess it had to do with how he died, or how he lived his life.
As for Hurley, since time has no meaning in the "afterlife" one could assume that he and Linus lived for quite some time and like Jacob, eventually tired of the burden and found other candidates to carry on.
Do I sense a "Lost: 2.0" on the horizon????
I just wish they went to the trouble of explaining more about what the island actually was, other than simply a "location" like Old Faithful etc. I mean, if it was the "key" to all life on earth, they could have shown destruction off the island when the light was turned off, that would signify its importance to the world, not just to the lostees. (as insinuated in some episodes).
One other thing, if smokie could fly, why did he need a boat to leave the island? If Jacob's brother turned into smokie when he went into the light, why didn't jack turn into WHITE smoke when he went into the cave? (if the brother was dead going in, jack died in there so....).

If you also saw, he couldn't fly over any kind of water, that's why he needed the boat to cross from the Main Island to Hydra Island. In many mythologies, running water has protective abilities; some old vampire folktales mention moats or rivers as a deterant to the undead.
As for also needing the boat, the Man in Black must also have know that since the only way her could leave was to extinguish the light which would revert his body into a coporeal form.
Jack went down willingly (and was injured before hand) where as the MiB was thrown in unwillingly.
It was mentioned before that if he left, everything would end/cease to exist. They never went on to explain why. (they said on many occasions to the lostees that they would cease to exist but as for everything? only once or twice...)
Overall I liked the ending. It didn't answer everything but I would have felt it strange if everything was wrapped up nice and tight.

I think that Kate's comment to Jack after the concert was "I missed you" implying that she was around a lot longer after she left the Island"
It clicked for me when jack walks into the "church" and the stained glass and other religious icons were from a bunch of different religions.
That makes no sense.
I found it annoying that they got Boone in to the ending even though he did next to nothing on the show while other significant characters were left out. I sort of thought Walt should have had a role but I guess his part was meaningless (or they couldn't get him for the finale).
Jack was in the exact same pose as when smokey was ejected from the cave. Smokey went in dead though while Jack went in alive.

I was thinking about walt too and it's probably because he was a pre-teen on the island and now he'd be 15, too dramatic a change as opposed to the rest.

Most shows have a person or team to back check data to make sure that they don't make any errors or omissions on past events. Not Lost. The way they wrote the show was: hey, know what would look good here? No what....THIS. But does it have any bearing on the story? No, but who cares? It'll look good so put it in......
