While I tend to overanalyze things in my life to a dysfunctional degree and try to find answers where there may not be any, in art, whether it be music, film or otherwise, I really value aesthetics.
Lyrics mean nothing to me compared to the melody and emotional impact of a song and a specific shot or score in a movie can affect me greatly without me having to wonder what it all means logically.
With that said, this entire season of Lost wasn't very good, but the last 5 minutes of the show were the most beautiful and sad scenes I've ever watched on television. I didn't care about plot holes or unanswered questions. The music, Jack's performance, and the shots (in particular of Christian walking towards the church doors with the two angels, slowly opening it to reveal light which floods the room) were touching and heart-wrenching.
I think it was a return to what made the show special in the first place. Emotional scenes that make you think; about life, death, love, spirituality, God... the show had many faults throughout the years, but I doubt there will be another mainstream television show that can arouse such intense and philosophical feelings and thoughts for a very, very long time.
As I said before, this episode was ripped off from the series finale of 6 Feet Under. ESPECIALLY the 5 minute sequence you glorify, was a complete rip-off of Claire driving in a car (intercut with future flashes of the family members dying) until she ultimately dies. The Lost producers made alternate ending parodies mimicking the Sopranos and Newhart but the truth is, their actual ending was a rip-off as well.
