Figured you would, that's why I put that in brackets earlier. ;)

You actually set colour temperature on your tv's and monitors? lol
Nice.
I was considering doing that on my monitor when editing RAW files.
What program do you use?

For monitor I use Spyder Pro (combination of program and colorimeter) to set the default value, and then I use HUEY to compensate for lighting condition.

For most people HUEY alone is enough, but to me the colour accuracy is just not too exacting.

For TV, I use Philips colorimeter. It's rather archaic by today's standard, but it does the job. The only caveat of the Philips colorimeter that it's heavy. The new ones are so light and small you can put them in your winter jacket vest.

For those who are interested, there is a great site for HD in Canada... visit www.cdtv.ca
It explains HD versus ED and SD in terms of production, broadcast and disply. They have listings for HD content available, and a "ask the expert " section.

that site is a joke, it doesn't even get into the differences of HDTV resolutions such as 720p, 768p, 980i, 1080i, 1080p and so on and so forth.

It's more like an HDTV promo site without dwelling into too much information.

for example: Widescreen: see 16:9 (Aspect ratio of widescreen DTV formats for all HDTV and some SDTV (Standard Definition) content) DUH! it's wrong! 16:9 is the encoding aspect ratio. The content can be 4:3, 2.35:1, 1.78:1, 1.66:1, 2.2:1, 2:1 or any aspect ratio.

Don't go to that website unless you want to be misled.

another one: Dolby Digital (AC-3). WRONG! AC-3 is a subset of Dolby Digital, but not all Dolby Digital is AC-3.

and another one: AC-3: 5.1 channel compressed.... WRONG! AC-3 can be mono (yes, 1 channel) and all the way up to 5.1 channel.

another one: Artefacts WRONG! how can one have an informational website and not be able to spell Artifacts properly?

another wrong things within one line of FAQ:

" DTS: Digital Theatre Sound System. A Dolby proprietary discrete 5.1 channel surround system similar to, but not the same as Dolby Digital AC-3, the DTV standard. DTS is used in cinema presentations and in DVD’s."

WRONG!

DTS stands for "Digital Theatre System".
DTS is NOT a proprietary system by Dolby
DTS has nothing in common with Dolby. Completely different codec, there is no similarity there.

lol Chan, nice catches, I just took one look at the site and didn't like it.
Didn't bother going into it.

On a sidenote I was at the Brick 2 days ago and saw the 60" Hitachi V model, and it's price was chhhheap.
Guess they're making room for the new models soon.
It normally retailed for $3999, it was on sale for $2598. ;)

LOL! I guess that's partially because I designed (not program) a lot of major A/V manufacturer's site so I scrutiny the tiniest bit (plus I also need to somewhat know what I'm designing about).

:)

FS is selling Toshiba 42" DLP for only $1500, I wonder what the specs are.

I'd only take that Toshiba for a G-note.
;)
ONLY THEN would I take a DLP.
It has to be ridiculously cheap. =D

From your previous posts I thought you knew everything....

By the way, your grammar is a bit rough around the edges.:D

I'm assuming that M.Chan, had seen the DLP in a flyer or elsewhere and didn't read the specs.
Keep in mind, specs vary depending on the year and specific model # of the unit. ie - Toshiba may have 2 42" DLPs with different inputs/outputs.

OOOOOh the brick eh? I get a discount there. Maybe I should consider getting my TV there seeing as I'm sure there regular prices are probably competitive to begin with.

The Brick, FS, BB, their prices are NOT competitive. Try local stores such as Eastview Electronics, Regency Audio or places like that. Their prices tend to be 15% cheaper than The Brick, FS, BB.

monkey... I apologise. Had a bad day and was unnecessarily rude to you. I still disagree, and you should use spell check, but I apologise for the tone of my comment.

On the contrary, they are quite competitive if you go in with a quoted price.
They (big box stores) can afford to cut below list price in flyers, A LOT MORE. I used to work for one of them. ;)
They get bulk, they're a lot bigger than smaller mom and pop shops, where their profit margins aren't that high.
